Sean P. Holman (2m 20s):

Hey, Lightning Have You Heard.

Intro (2m 22s):

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Sean P. Holman (2m 25s):

No.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 26s):

Nope. You really

Sean P. Holman (2m 27s):

Like that one? I love that one. Did you see that Ford shoved a five liter V eight in a Raptor?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 35s):

No, I I missed that.

Sean P. Holman (2m 37s):

It’s the, the only Raptor with a five liter V eight.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 42s):

So they have the five, two and the R.

Sean P. Holman (2m 44s):

Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 45s):

Why the five? What’s the project? I don’t, I don’t get it.

Sean P. Holman (2m 49s):

So that would be the new Decar racer. Check that bad boy out.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 55s):

Oh, that’s freaking awesome. That is. That’s not even real. That’s a toy. Nope. That is. That’s an RC car. But

Sean P. Holman (3m 1s):

It’s, no, it’s sick. That’s

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 3s):

You sure. That’s not an RC car. They slow down and No, they do it on the sand dunes to make it and then they pretend like it’s real footage.

Sean P. Holman (3m 8s):

No, it’s got a V eight and 37 inch tires. It’s not street legal. And it looks mean as fricking all the words. Yeah, basically Ford has, well it’s a new Raptor but it’s not an F-150. It’s not a Bronco. Not even a ranger. This is the Raptor T one Plus, which is a race truck built to conquer the car and it looks freaking incredible. So guess Ford partnered with the Prozac M Sport Limited to develop it. It’s got a double wishbone suspension front and back with 13 inches of travel. It looks like a, a truck coop, rally car and trophy truck all melded into one.

Sean P. Holman (3m 49s):

Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 49s):

No way. It doesn’t look Raptor when you’ll see it. It again, it looks like a,

Sean P. Holman (3m 53s):

A spaceship. Yeah,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 54s):

It looks crazy. You took the photo down. Was that Red Bull sponsored?

Sean P. Holman (3m 57s):

Yeah, it looks like Red Bull Ford. Like I said, BF Goodrich. Yeah,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 1s):

That’s, that’s a, that’s a super car for the sand

Sean P. Holman (4m 3s):

Threeway adjustable Fox coil overs at each corner. Four settings for the dampers. It’s got three sevens on seventeens, 14 inch, six piston brakes. There’s a purpose-built space frame chassis out of T 45. Steel carbon fiber body curb weight less than 4,500 pounds and it’s got over 16 inches of ground clearance. I

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 26s):

Wonder why they did the five liter though. It doesn’t really explain why they chose that

Sean P. Holman (4m 31s):

Platform. They just say it’s a five liter coyote based engine with a dry sum oil system and a tuned exhaust. Probably because it does everything they need

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 37s):

To do. Yeah, maybe. ’cause it’s tried and true Cote,

Sean P. Holman (4m 39s):

It’s been around forever. Turbos, no supercharger just, it’s just worth the approach angle. 70 degrees. Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 44s):

You know what, like, it’s funny that you like sand cars and, and and the Baja Racers, they don’t really, they don’t like turbos. They don’t like superchargers. They want naturally aspirated. Just big power. I

Sean P. Holman (4m 54s):

Guess. You’re not making extra heat under the, well this is probably mid engine I think. But dude, that thing, it just looks awesome. Like I look at it and I’m like that that, I mean it’s, it’s rad and it’s kinda got like a Raptor ish grill on it that’s got the FORD. But yeah,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 8s):

It looks cool from the front. The back is weird. You’re seeing all the suspension bits. If you

Sean P. Holman (5m 12s):

Looked at it, you might think it was like an electric race car, but it’s not.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 16s):

Again, if you showed me that, I would see that’s an RC car. That’s not real. Yeah,

Sean P. Holman (5m 21s):

It’s awesome.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 22s):

It does look real. Speaking of the RC cars, do you ever see those videos on Instagram? Yes. Where the RC

Sean P. Holman (5m 28s):

Card and where everybody thinks it’s real. Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 29s):

Where they slow it down? Yeah. And it gives it some weight. Yeah. As it travels through the air. Yeah. Yeah. That’s cool. It’s just, it’s blasting through a big mud puddle right there. Awesome. That’s, that’s cool.

Sean P. Holman (5m 39s):

Huh? Can’t wait to see how it does. ’cause that thing is badass. Hey Lighting, Have, You Heard. No,

4 (5m 45s):

No, no, no, no, no. Nope. No,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 47s):

No negative.

Sean P. Holman (5m 48s):

So our buddy Caleb Jacobs of the drive, so if you go to to the drive dot com Tony Angelo who used to work at MotorTrend, they did like the hot rod garage videos and stuff stuff. Oh yeah. Yeah. He’s got his own channel now. And the latest thing he did was take a 2 25 slant six Dodge pickup truck. Which, so the slant six is a straight six, but it’s like cocked over 30 degrees for packaging. He bought $120 turbo off Amazon. Okay. And he just wanted to see like what he

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 14s):

Didn’t get in for Prime day.

Sean P. Holman (6m 15s):

Yeah. May maybe he did. Right. But it’s an 80 Dodge D one 50 and he basically put this thing together and in stock form. What do you think the zero to 60 time was

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 28s):

In stock form? Pre turbo. You’re talking about

Sean P. Holman (6m 29s):

Three Turbo. Oh

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 31s):

You said zero to 60?

Sean P. Holman (6m 32s):

145 horsepower. 250 pound feet of torque from the factory. I dunno.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 37s):

Th 13, 14 seconds.

Sean P. Holman (6m 38s):

18.4.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 39s):

Oh geez. Okay. And then do we have post turbo?

Sean P. Holman (6m 43s):

Well if you go to, I don’t wanna take all of the all, all of the magic out of Tony’s channel or Caleb

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 49s):

Story. Did he cut it in half? He

Sean P. Holman (6m 51s):

Cut, he cut it in half

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 53s):

For $125. Well

Sean P. Holman (6m 54s):

There’s a little bit more to it ’cause you had to put it all together. But anyway, anytime somebody’s doing something crazy with The truck, that’s just silly. Like that makes you smile. I’m all for it. So

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 2s):

How long do you think that Turbo’s gonna last

Sean P. Holman (7m 4s):

Until his next episode? Where he rebuilds the slicks?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 7s):

Exactly. Yeah. All the turbo guts and the compressor Wheel goes through the engine.

Sean P. Holman (7m 12s):

Hey, Lighting, Have, You Heard.

5 (7m 14s):

No,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 15s):

No I haven’t.

Sean P. Holman (7m 17s):

So I was perusing the interwebs today and somebody sent me this killer Instagram post and it was from at Vantage Auto Collection. It’s a brand new 1990 Chevrolet 4 54 SS pickup truck,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 34s):

Brand new

Sean P. Holman (7m 35s):

Three miles.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 36s):

Oh, how what? How

Sean P. Holman (7m 38s):

Well it was purchased new and stored. They I guess acquired it still wrapped in factory plastic window sticker fix to it. At what

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 46s):

Point does the plastic permanently adhere to like the final stuff?

Sean P. Holman (7m 50s):

Right. Seriously. Time capsule is the lowest mileage example known to exist. It’s been fully surfaced and it runs just like new. So I was thinking, man, what a Gail’s got two of these things and I was thinking man, what, what a special fricking truck black with red interior. I mean that’s exactly how I’d want a 4 54 SS, small, short bed, regular cab pickup with a big block in it.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 13s):

I just, yeah, and Gail keeps saying that he wants to like take it out of the moth balls and run it and do something. I don’t really like that body style.

Sean P. Holman (8m 21s):

No, you’re wrong.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 22s):

I. Don’t think it’s

Sean P. Holman (8m 23s):

GM T 400. I don’t like the dash. I do like the body style.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 25s):

It’s just I. Don’t think it’s contemporary I. Don’t think like young people or anyone Yeah’s talking about it for that matter.

Sean P. Holman (8m 31s):

Totally. Those things are catching on. Truck Show Podcast at gmail dot com. Hey listen, Lightning hates the GM T 400.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 36s):

Stop. Stop for a sec. Stop. Stop. I, that’s my personal opinion. I don’t I. Great. But if you

Sean P. Holman (8m 41s):

Don’t care, what do you think it went for? Or what do you think it’s listed for? I should say,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 45s):

Where’s it listed? Bring a trailer?

Sean P. Holman (8m 46s):

No, well Vantage Auto.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 47s):

Oh, vantage. Vantage. Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (8m 49s):

But they do have a, a listing on their site for, for bring a trailer. Okay.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 53s):

What’s it listed for? I mean it’s You said how many miles again on this thing? Three. Three miles.

Sean P. Holman (8m 59s):

It’s basically a, a, a brand new truck.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 2s):

I feel like it’s gotta be like 2 10, 2 20. I’m just, yeah. Whoa. Yeah. Yeah. Two 10.

Sean P. Holman (9m 7s):

Then you would be happy to find out you could buy this for a cool 1 49. Nine,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 12s):

Okay. All, right?

Sean P. Holman (9m 14s):

Hmm? Did you buy a Chevy pickup for 150

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 17s):

Grand? No, not that one.

Sean P. Holman (9m 19s):

That’s the one to have though.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 20s):

It it is it, I get it. Like that’s probably a decent investment.

Sean P. Holman (9m 24s):

I mean that or a cyclone. What do you think a cyclone goes

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 28s):

For now? I. I. Think a cyclone’s probably more special don’t you? Don? Don’t know. SS, they’s different trucks. I feel like the SS was cool in its day, but not like the Cycl. So was Cyclone. Yeah, but the cyclone is, cyclone is like more, it’s well revered.

Sean P. Holman (9m 41s):

It’s Yeah, but it’s not a better truck.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 43s):

I didn’t say it was a better

Sean P. Holman (9m 44s):

Truck. They’re They’re pretty awful. I didn’t and rough and yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 46s):

Well the Chevy 4 54 SS prize. Not a whole lot better.

Sean P. Holman (9m 50s):

I don’t know. 4 54 fours are pretty good.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 52s):

The engine’s probably out.

Sean P. Holman (9m 54s):

Listen, you could blow up a cyclone driving down the road. 4 54 SS thou, hundreds of thousands of miles. Wouldn’t care. Okay. Do burnout whenever you want.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 1s):

You make a good point. Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (10m 2s):

All. right? Anyway, I just thought it was kind of cool. Hey Lighting, Have, You, Heard.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 6s):

No,

6 (10m 7s):

No,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 8s):

No. Uhuh. So

Sean P. Holman (10m 9s):

The numbers are in and the first half of the 2024. Mid-size pickups. What do you think? Q1 and Q2 together? Yeah. What do you think is number one?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 22s):

So mid-size pickups. What is number one? Huh? Okay. I I know how this is gonna go Colorado.

Sean P. Holman (10m 30s):

Nope.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 31s):

Okay. Oh, I’m happy then. Mid-size pickups. It’s Oh Ranger.

Sean P. Holman (10m 40s):

No.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 41s):

Oh, then it’s a Tacoma. Geez.

Sean P. Holman (10m 44s):

Took you long enough. Well I

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 45s):

Just I I thought you were setting me up for something that wasn’t Tacoma.

Sean P. Holman (10m 48s):

I don’t know why you’re always thinking I’m setting you up. Sometimes I just want the info.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 51s):

Listen. Oh then it, here’s the thing. I wanted to say Tacoma first, but I. I,

Sean P. Holman (10m 54s):

Okay. Tacoma sells 69,437 this year. That’s a negative 40% change. Last year, Q1 and Q2 they sold 116,000. Yeah, but

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 4s):

Weren’t they? They were ramping into it. Right? They’re

Sean P. Holman (11m 5s):

Ramping into it and they lost almost half their sales and they’re still number one. It’s pretty crazy. Yeah. Now Chevy Colorado comes in at number two with 41 8 23. That’s up 26%. And GM combined canyons toward the bottom of the list. GM combined is 58 6 58. So that’s up 30%. So it looks like they mopped up most of the, of the losses from the Tacoma. People are going over the GM trucks, which makes sense. They’re great trucks coming in. Third Nissan Frontier up 17% so they can take the remainder Wow. Of that. And they sold 39,963 versus 34,000 last year. So go

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 43s):

Frontier

Sean P. Holman (11m 44s):

Gladiator comes in at 23,478 down 14% Honda Ridge line 19,922 down 27.4%. Oh

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 53s):

Wow. I wonder why

Sean P. Holman (11m 55s):

GMC, I don’t know.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 56s):

Weren’t they like they were killing it

Sean P. Holman (11m 57s):

For a while? GMC Canyon 16,835, they’re actually up 43%. They sold 11,000 7 24 last year. And then the Ford Ranger 15,000 1 75. But they’re also going through a changeover and that truck was really hard to get for a while. So just kinda interesting to see. And then for those of you care, Maverick versus Hyundai, Santa Cruz Maverick up 81% versus last year they sold 42, 499, 70 7,113 of those things. Oh my God.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 25s):

But go back to the Maverick. They didn’t expect it to be that SMASH success. We’ve talked about it

Sean P. Holman (12m 30s):

Before. I know. So did

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 32s):

They have an issue? It’s

Sean P. Holman (12m 32s):

Even crazier because they were able to ramp up so

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 35s):

Fast. Well I’m saying like did they have an issue where they, they just couldn’t ramp and now we’re seeing it.

Sean P. Holman (12m 40s):

I I don’t know Hyundai Santa Cruz is only 17,945. So that was minus 10%. Do you like the

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 45s):

Santa Cruz? To me it’s, it’s two car-like

Sean P. Holman (12m 49s):

Yeah, it’s just a, it’s a car with a bed. Yeah. So that would be more than a GMC Canyon and a Ford Ranger for the first half of the year. So Hyundai’s gotta be pretty happy about that. Yeah. So I think that’s kind of, kind of interesting. Hey, Lighting, Have, You Heard.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 0s):

No, no. Going

Sean P. Holman (13m 2s):

Into full-size trucks. It looks like the sales are in on that. You might be interested to know that GM trucks combined are in number one with 421,220 sold. That’s a 3.5% positive change. If you break out Chevy and gm, the way Ford wants you to, Ford is still in the lead with 352,000 4 0 6. That’s minus 8%. But they’re also having a changeover right now. Silverado 2 72 4 35. That’s the 3.2% change RAM down almost 20%. 1 79 5 26. And why

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 37s):

Do we think that is? Why is RAM having so many issues? Is it because they’re going away from the va? Is it, it’s, that’s

Sean P. Holman (13m 41s):

Probably part of it. And then also they’re going through changeover in Q2 also. ’cause the new ones are just hitting the, you know, just hitting the dealers now. Sierra 1 48 7 85, that was up 4%. Toyota Tundra. I was surprised to see this. 78, 4 54, they’re up 31% even with all the bad press about the engines and stuff. See I,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 59s):

You know, I, I’ve said this and I’ll say it again. I don’t really care about the bad press. I think that’s an awesome truck. I love that Tundra. Yeah, I

Sean P. Holman (14m 6s):

Rough around the edges.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 7s):

I, don’t think so.

Sean P. Holman (14m 9s):

F-150 Lighting is hitting its stride. 15,000 6 45, that’s up 78.7%. Cyber trucks at 11,000 6 88. Nissan Titan going away this year. So down from 10,500 to 8,200. So that’s a 22% loss. And then again, Hummer ev, which is hilarious because they sold 49 in the last, in the first part of the last year. And 4,500 now 45, 97, 49

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 37s):

Units up

Sean P. Holman (14m 38s):

9281%. And the Silverado EVs sold 3,257 so far. So anyway, just kind of interesting to see who is outselling who these days? Hey, Lighting, Have, You Heard. No,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 53s):

No.

Sean P. Holman (14m 54s):

The 2025 GMC Sierra Ev. A rumor is that in addition to the massive giant 204 kilowatt hour battery pack from the Hummer, that it may offer a smaller 170 kilowatt hour battery pack. That is almost three times the battery. That’s in my aria. That’s their small pack. Dude, that’s a lot. That’s a lot of juice. Yeah. So Tesla, Powerwall, you know, the thing that powers your house, 13.5 kilowatt hours. It’s

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 24s):

Nothing so feeble in

Sean P. Holman (15m 26s):

Comparison. I mean that is crazy. Like, do I I hate to be like do electric cars? I mean, we talked about it in the last couple episodes we talked about with Johnny. It’s still just still blows my mind. I’m, I’m still like, seriously, it takes

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 39s):

So much power to move that weight and overcome the force of air. That’s literally what it is.

Sean P. Holman (15m 47s):

God, it sounds like our podcast.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 48s):

I know. Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (15m 50s):

Yes, Touche.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 52s):
