Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 26s):
I’ll go with him. No, I haven’t.
Sean P. Holman (2m 29s):
Hey, have you seen some of the new BMWs, by the way, you
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 32s):
Mean the really ugly ones?
Sean P. Holman (2m 33s):
I mean, the Hoffmeister kink is gone now.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 35s):
Well, I don’t know what that is. What’s the Hoffmeister kink? That’s
Sean P. Holman (2m 38s):
The dog leg that was always in the, the, it’s the sea pillar on a BM bmw.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 41s):
I didn’t know it had a name. Yeah, the
Sean P. Holman (2m 42s):
Hoffmeister Kink. Okay. And it’s gone. Hmm. And they’re ugly. And there’s all sorts of appliques and panel filling plastic pieces and God, they’re just horrible. They used to be one of the cleanest, most felt like athletic, just a purposeful car. And now they’re ugly.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 55s):
Well, if you see the new M three, it’s M three, M four, whatever the hell it is from the side. It’s every bit as gorgeous as it was. But the front is just an ugly ass snout. Whoa. It just is. It’s, it’s awful.
Sean P. Holman (3m 10s):
How about the M five?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 13s):
Not any better.
Sean P. Holman (3m 14s):
No, not, not,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 15s):
Not any better. And this is a guy who used to own a five 40 and, and Oh. yeah.
Sean P. Holman (3m 21s):
No,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 22s):
It’s not, it’s not as bad as the three, the five’s not as bad. Oh,
Sean P. Holman (3m 25s):
Yes it
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 26s):
Is. Yeah. It’s not good.
Sean P. Holman (3m 27s):
The side profile’s horrible. And how chunky that there’s nothing athletic or slim or any, it’s just, well,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 32s):
It’s worse because the grills aren’t for real anymore. You know, the kidneys, that’s
Sean P. Holman (3m 38s):
Just, they’re
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 38s):
Just for looks and they retaining them because it’s heritage.
Sean P. Holman (3m 41s):
I don’t know the whole, the whole thing’s bad. I’m, I’m, I don’t know why we’re talking about BMWs, but what I go through all the news for the week. I sometimes stumble on something that you’re like, okay, well that’s I don wanna talk about that. ’cause it’s our podcast. We talk about whatever the hell we want. Even
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 55s):
If it’s not trucks,
Sean P. Holman (3m 55s):
Chili dogs. And our
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 57s):
Guys don’t own trucks exclusively. Right. As we discovered when we talked about, you know, you having the, the Nissan and other guys are like, Oh. yeah. I got an economy car that I drive. So we, we know they drive other stuff.
Sean P. Holman (4m 8s):
I just, they’re, they’re idiots. Hey, Lighting, Have, You Heard.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 12s):
No, no.
Sean P. Holman (4m 14s):
Did you hear that Pike’s Peak, which just happened this past weekend, has some some winners?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 21s):
Yeah, I did, but I’ll let you share the news. So
Sean P. Holman (4m 23s):
The Ford F-150 Lighting super truck claimed King of the Mountain at this year’s Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb Ford Performance, put out a release about Romaine Dumas piloting the electric vehicle demonstrator of America’s Mountain with a time of eight minutes, 53.553 seconds, which is, if I’m not mistaken, a freaking insane time.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 47s):
Yeah, it’s nuts. Absolute nuts.
Sean P. Holman (4m 49s):
I wanna see the video of that because that thing must have just, I mean, geez, he had a technical issue and had to come to a complete stop on the course. It delayed them 26 seconds over his initial qualifying time. But he was able to complete a full reset of The truck quickly continuing his climb and still claim the top spot out of all 61 competitors even having to stop on the course. I mean, sub 10, sub nine,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 17s):
I mean, this is the same race that Scott Birdsall went off the side twice. It’s,
Sean P. Holman (5m 22s):
Well, last year was violent.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 23s):
Right. But it, like, this is a crazy, crazy test of man and machine, unlike many others. To go sub 10 is nuts. But to go
Sean P. Holman (5m 34s):
Especially stopping
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 35s):
Yeah. And to go 8 53 is, is, is is freaking wild.
Sean P. Holman (5m 39s):
So it’s a 1600 horsepower all electric truck that, that won. You
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 43s):
Got a lot of mix here. I’m just going down the, the like the top 20. I won’t bore you with all these, but like you got obviously the 2024 Ford F-150 Lighting, a 2024 Wolf Arrow Bay GBO eight 2.0, whatever that is, that was in second place with a 9 0 4 9 minutes and four seconds, followed by a 2025 Hyundai Ionic five N Which
Sean P. Holman (6m 4s):
Is which which is, is like their performance version. And that’s their, it’s kind of like kind of rally car vibes a little bit. Yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 11s):
It’s the one that you can actually drift. Yeah. It will drift. And it makes sounds, it actually has like a gearbox noise. Yeah. We make sounds
Sean P. Holman (6m 18s):
Too on this podcast.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 19s):
Next one was a 2021 Sierra Alpha. That’s the little bitty car. Right. And then 2016, well did you hear
Sean P. Holman (6m 27s):
About
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 28s):
Axel Riley Ave? LMP three? Randy Popes. So Randy. Yeah, Randy did. Well, I’m getting to that in a second. So next one was a Porsche nine 11, next one, another dude. Oh, Randy was driving a 2025 Hyundai Ionic five n as well. And he came in at nine minutes and 55 seconds.
Sean P. Holman (6m 44s):
So, so what I heard is that he had something like 48 hours of notice that he was gonna be driving. Oh my God. And he pulled out a sub 10. Well, he like that.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 53s):
That’s, he knows that mount like the back of his hand though. Well,
Sean P. Holman (6m 55s):
Of course, but I mean, if you’re not, you still lose it a little bit. And he’s in an unfamiliar car, right? Like, dude, that’s, that’s,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 2s):
Although he’s, you know, last couple years he was I think driving for Tesla unplug performance. Yeah, yeah. And so he’s familiar with EVs and all that stuff, so it’s not that radical. But yeah, 48 hours notice is, that’s not a whole lot of prep time.
Sean P. Holman (7m 16s):
No, I mean, if somebody said, Hey, you’re gonna go race Baja tomorrow, you’re not gonna be like, okay, cool. I know off-roading you’d be like, oh crap. I mean that’s, that’s some serious stuff. The other one that I was curious about is the rivian, right? So they had the Gen two R one T with 1025 horsepower. And it got, so this is a truck, this is a heavy electric truck. What do you Well, I you’re probably looking at it right
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 42s):
Now. I’m looking at it right now. It’s pretty respectable. I gotta say
Sean P. Holman (7m 44s):
Under 11 minutes. 10 53. Yeah. that was Gardner Nichols driving that truck. He broke his record in stock truck class that he set his own record in the Rivian over last year by 30 seconds. That at that, that’s a lot. That’s an insane number. Yeah. At this. And for the rivian to be stock class, I mean, dude, that’s not a, that’s not a minor thing to have a factory vehicle going under 11 a pipe speed. No,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 11s):
It’s not like the next, the, the two vehicles that he beat the next closest was a 2019 Porsche GT two RS Club Sport and a 2023 Porsche seven 18 GT four RS Club Sport. Like you just smoked Porsches and Rivian. Yeah. Like that, that embarrasses dude,
Sean P. Holman (8m 28s):
Porsche owners. That’s, that’s legit, right? Yeah. Like that’s totally legit. Johnny Lieberman posted on his, on his Instagram that Randy got the call to drive the Tuesday before the race. So just a few days notice. by the way, Johnny’s gonna be on our next show. He’s coming in studio I think, to come hang out with us. Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 44s):
Jesus. Which is, there could be a lot of cigar smoke in here. No,
Sean P. Holman (8m 47s):
We’re not smoking cigars. We’re just gonna drink and, and get rowdy. Okay. Talk about things that make people uncomfortable and angry. All right. Alright, moving on from Pikes Peak. Hey, Lighting, Have, You Heard.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 58s):
Oh hell no. Nah, no, no.
Sean P. Holman (9m 2s):
America’s most Wanted four by four. They did the AMW 10 25, which is the elephant powered Gladiator, 1025 horsepower. And of course, the full AMW upgrades just sold at Barrett Jackson.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 17s):
Can I guess
Sean P. Holman (9m 18s):
Be my guest,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 20s):
Two 10,
Sean P. Holman (9m 21s):
No
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 22s):
To low or too high.
Sean P. Holman (9m 24s):
This had a supercharge 6.2 liter Hemi Elephant C one 70 V eight engine, same one found in the SRT demon 1 7945 pound feet of torque. And of course it can run on E 85.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 37s):
Okay. I’m gonna come down I feel like It was way too high. Okay. So I’m gonna say 1 35.
Sean P. Holman (9m 43s):
Keep it in mind. I think less than a hundred of those engines have been made. Yeah,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 47s):
I’m still, I’m sticking with 1 35.
Sean P. Holman (9m 49s):
So this thing comes with 4 88 gearing. It comes with the upgraded axles. Comes with 1350 cv, long travel front drive line with cold forged universal joints on it. I mean, no
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 3s):
Brachy Bray.
Sean P. Holman (10m 4s):
You get the 1410 cv long travel rear drive line with also with cold forged universal joints. And it’s got a Dana 80 in the rear. Holy
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 13s):
Mackerel.
Sean P. Holman (10m 14s):
So the, the braking system, obviously massive upgrade. Oh, by the way, I’m heading up to Willwood to get my brake soon on three,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 20s):
Two Oh, finally. Really?
Sean P. Holman (10m 21s):
Yeah. So we’re working on details right now. Okay.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 23s):
Those are the, the Air dms. Are you going full? Well, no, you have to. No, I have
Sean P. Holman (10m 26s):
To because I gotta fit inside a 17 inch Wheel. Yeah. Yeah. So it’ll be cool. So we’ll have, I’ll have some will wood content coming up. Okay. Anyway, you’re
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 33s):
Gonna go see our friend Mikey Hamrick.
Sean P. Holman (10m 35s):
I am gonna see Mike and Brian Cox Yep. And the whole crew up there.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 38s):
Nice. And then Mr. Steve Cordius.
Sean P. Holman (10m 40s):
I will see. I’m guessing. I’ll see all of them. So anyway, this was based on a 2024 Jeep Gladiator. So it has the full new interior with the screen and all that kinda stuff. You, you, what did you say? One,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 49s):
Well, I said 1 35, but now you’re making me feel like that’s too low. At first I said 200. Yeah. Or whatever. Then I came down to 1 35. But I I, I’m sticking with the 1 35.
Sean P. Holman (10m 56s):
$330,000.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 58s):
No, stop that.
Sean P. Holman (10m 60s):
$330,000.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 2s):
You’re a lying sack of no dude.
Sean P. Holman (11m 5s):
$330,000.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 9s):
No, no. Yes. No. Whoa.
Sean P. Holman (11m 12s):
Yes.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 13s):
That’s not right. No,
Sean P. Holman (11m 15s):
No. I mean, that’s amazing.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 17s):
That’s ridiculous.
Sean P. Holman (11m 19s):
I mean, these things are masterpieces in person, dude.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 21s):
I mean, that’s,
4 (11m 22s):
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Although it’s kind of so bad that it’s good isn’t
Sean P. Holman (11m 30s):
A way. Yeah. I mean, I can’t afford it. All right, well, moving on to other auction things. Lighting Have, You Heard. No.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 36s):
No.
Sean P. Holman (11m 36s):
So, you know, the little Red Express trucks did back in the late seventies, the little red ones, the stacks, the Dodges. You’re looking at me blank.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 44s):
No. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. I do.
Sean P. Holman (11m 46s):
I do. Red resting gold on the door.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 47s):
Yes. I know the one now. Yeah. So it took me a second. Yep.
Sean P. Holman (11m 49s):
If you love that truck, there’s a super freaking clean one on Bring a trailer right now.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 54s):
Okay. Can I guess that one? Well,
Sean P. Holman (11m 57s):
It’s on Bring a trailer. So it hasn’t sold yet.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 59s):
Oh, it doesn’t tell you the No, I’m
Sean P. Holman (12m 0s):
Telling, I’m telling your listeners if you’ve ever wanted one of these things, this thing looks,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 5s):
Flip that around. Lemme see it.
Sean P. Holman (12m 7s):
It’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 7s):
Clean. Oh, that is cool. Yeah. Yeah. That’s cool. I bett you that’s gonna go for like somewhere in the eighties. I
Sean P. Holman (12m 14s):
Bet. I dunno. Maybe, maybe. I mean, I might go more than that. I don’t, I haven’t looked at those to know what the,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 20s):
What the, that’s the rate is. That’s the whole, that’s the Lightning based on nothing whiff, you know, it’s like, it’s a, I think it’s going for the eighties. Whiff like
Sean P. Holman (12m 27s):
A swing or whiff. Like a sniff.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 29s):
No, like as you swing for the, you know,
Sean P. Holman (12m 31s):
The fences. Yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 32s):
For the fence. Exactly. Got,
Sean P. Holman (12m 33s):
Got it. Hey, Lighting Have, You Heard.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 35s):
No, no.
Sean P. Holman (12m 37s):
So today Volkswagen signed a deal with another EV manufacturer that’s worth up to $5 billion.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 51s):
Why?
Sean P. Holman (12m 51s):
Can you guess who
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 54s):
An EV manufacturer? Faraday Fortune. Faraday Future? No, no, I’m just kidding. No, they’re gone. No, no, no. I know that. They’re way gone. Lordstown? Nope. Way
Sean P. Holman (13m 4s):
Gone.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 4s):
Oh, okay. The pill company, the one that they, they look like little buses that are shaped like Tylenol pills. No, outta Santa Monica, California. No. Campus Gallupa. What are they?
Sean P. Holman (13m 14s):
Gallup Canoe.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 15s):
Canoe. Yeah. Canoe. No, no, I was kidding. Not them, I think. Who did they team up with? It’s gonna be, it’s not Tesla. I, I guess I have to say, I have to say Rivian. It
Sean P. Holman (13m 30s):
Is Rivian.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 30s):
Oh wow. Okay.
Sean P. Holman (13m 32s):
So Volkswagen Group at Rivian announced the formation of a joint venture, which will take Rivian software and electrical architecture to future VW models and return VW vests up to 5 billion into the startup EV company. Wow. But here’s the thing that’s weird. So a bunch of Rivian people in the past year left and are at Scout, which is owned by Volkswagen for their new Rivian competitor.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 56s):
Oh, I see what’s happening here.
Sean P. Holman (13m 58s):
So now you’re like, wait a minute.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 60s):
Interesting. So now the
Sean P. Holman (14m 0s):
Competitors are gonna share commonalities. So I’m, I’m curious at what happens there. But it says that there’ll be a 50 50 joint venture, which will be finalized by the end of the year. And Will VW will be able to leverage Rivian electrical architecture and then licensed to its software. So one of the things Rivian ISS really good with is their ecosystem, their software. But they’ve also developed in these new vehicles, a new electrical architecture that they call zonal. And that means that the ECUs are responsible for a bunch of different functions in their zone. And then they communicate with each other. So that
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 37s):
Sounds like most modern eecs No, no, the e cm, the B cm, the T cm. No, they all talk to one, one another.
Sean P. Holman (14m 43s):
But this isn’t that. This is, they combine all of those things into a module. So there’s less modules in the vehicle. Oh. So for example, you might usually have a bunch of different suppliers that do Oh, the transmission or the door locks or the wiper. They’re all different and they’re made to the same spec or something like that. And they may have their own unique language. So then the car company makes ’em talk to each other through its own language. Right, right. Well, with Rivian zonal architecture, they do a custom in-house design and build ECU that control a bunch of different functions. And so there’s apparently less wiring and less computers on board because these modules are controlling more than what they would normally do in a, in a regular car.
Sean P. Holman (15m 27s):
So I, I find that super interesting. I think it’s probably great. You know, Volkswagen’s probably a little bit behind the ball and Rivian and Rivian has really proven itself. But Rivian ISS cash strapped, right? Like it’s not easy building a car company. They’ve got the R two that they want to introduce that they’ve teased that smaller SUV and that hasn’t come out yet. and I think they’re waiting, you know, now they have a cash infusion, I guess is the right way to say that. So that they can have the R two come out with this Volkswagen money. I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 54s):
Mean, Volkswagen is about as big as you get, right? Globally.
Sean P. Holman (15m 57s):
That’s the biggest car company in the world, I think. Or it was for a while. It’s, it’s gotta be top two or three. If it’s not, I mean, the
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (16m 2s):
Biggest good on Rivian, I,
Sean P. Holman (16m 4s):
It’s just crazy. I mean, you look at that and you’re just like, man, that’s, that’s a
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (16m 7s):
I I feel like other than Dieselgate, you know, that happened a Volkswagen some years back. Volkswagen is one of those companies that you don’t really complain about the quality. You don’t hear about issues. I, I feel like it’s not one of those companies. No, no, no. Go with me. It’s some of those companies that we’re always talking about like, oh, Volkswagens in the
Sean P. Holman (16m 28s):
News’s. They don’t have anything. Something. They don’t have anything in The truck Market. If you work on Volkswagens, especially Audis, as soon as the warranty period is over, those things start falling apart. Door
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (16m 36s):
Panels fall far. I’m sorry. You know what I take back everything I said we’re, it’s
Sean P. Holman (16m 40s):
Don don’t know if I do that far, but I just don’t think that we talk about ’em that much. ’cause there’s not a whole lot in our space. Okay. I wish the Amaro was here. I wish there was truck stuff, but there’s but there’s not. So, but maybe we’ll have a lot to talk about with Scout would be kinda cool. Hey, Lighting, Have, You Heard.
6 (16m 54s):
I don’t watch the news because I’m a kid.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (16m 57s):
No. So
Sean P. Holman (16m 58s):
Got a email from our friends over at cima, these specialty Equipment market association and They said that the industry support for this year’s SEMA show is now at a five year high with over 2,400 brands registered. I think that’s pre covid. That’s huge,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 15s):
Huh?
Sean P. Holman (17m 15s):
So good for them. A lot of people are like, oh, SEMA show’s gonna die and this and this and that. Well,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 19s):
I mean, I hear that a lot from people that I know are in the industry. But then there you go. That’s clearly the numbers are proving that wrong. Maybe it’s just the mid tier, the, you know, companies that do X number of dollars and above don’t need seima anymore. And SEMA is about the, the smaller company, which by the way is great. That’s what it’s there for. If you’ve got an upstart company making a widget for a vehicle, there is no better place to get it out to. Well I was gonna say B2B, but now there’s consumers there as well. But just getting it out and if you want distribution, you need your Meyer, your Keystone, your premier, your turn 14 to push your product out to the world. That’s where you meet ’em. So that’s, that’s great news.
Sean P. Holman (17m 60s):
Hey Lightning, did you hear? No,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (18m 2s):
No.
Sean P. Holman (18m 4s):
A couple recalls for you. We will start off with the Tesla cyber truck. Ooh. Apparently the wiper motors for that big giant 400 foot witched wiper that’s front, that thing, the motor fails and then it’s also recalling because there’s bedside trim that can come loose and then leave the vehicle.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (18m 24s):
Oh my. So wait, wait. Like the, how much trim? I know you don’t know this the answer to this, but like that is like, that’s death. Like that’s a sword traveling through the air.
Sean P. Holman (18m 35s):
So apparently the company figured this out back in February when Tesla service identified a wiper motor failure and they recovered 20 motors and they analyzed for the, over the next few months and they figured out that a tier two supplier applied excessive current to it, damaging the motor circuit board but doesn’t say it caused any injuries or things like that. Looks like it’s probably, the recall has 11,688 trucks in it. Those are the ones that made from November 13th, 2023 to do June 6th, 2024.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (19m 5s):
So then this is a hazard because, but you can’t because you can’t see what
Sean P. Holman (19m 8s):
It’s raining. Yeah, it rains Oh. yeah. Yeah. Tesla says they think only 2% of the vehicles have the defect. So bringing it down into Tesla service, get that fixed. And then the other issue is inspection for the exterior bed trim. So I guess that’s the, the sale applique. But I don’t know if it does, it doesn’t make it clear to you.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (19m 26s):
I think this, so the name of this TSB is the flying guillotine,
Sean P. Holman (19m 29s):
Is that what that is? Yes. It says that the sale applique might not have been installed. Right. Which it could come loose and leave the vehicle. It doesn’t say if that’s the metal one or the plastic one. It’s, I dunno. Anyway,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (19m 43s):
I was kinda surprised when You were at Brian’s. Brian Rodriguez, our friend over at SoCal Tint. In your work done on your, your Jeep. Oh no, you took it last for your Nissan, right? Were did he have any cyber trucks there? None because when I was there, there was two cyber trucks. He’s been doing a ton of cyber trucks.
Sean P. Holman (19m 58s):
Well, on your way to the freeway, did you say Tesla just opened up a facility right up the street from my house? No, I didn’t
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (20m 3s):
See that.
Sean P. Holman (20m 4s):
And if you go by, it’s the Tesla Collision Center. Oh. And it’s filled with all sorts of bastion cyber trucks and model threes and things like that. Interesting. It’s got a rattle iron fence and as you drive by, you can look into it and see things.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (20m 14s):
No, I always see the one out the, the two 10 freeway out that way. There’s a bunch of bashed up Teslas out there. But anyway, I bring this up because he pulls the panels off to wrap, you know, put, he’s doing all these crazy colors and stuff like that and he, I was stunned how easily all those panels just pull right off. Yep. They’re like skins. Yeah, like an exoskeleton.
Sean P. Holman (20m 32s):
But that’s how most vehicles are except for they don’t snap on. Usually there’s bolts and stuff, but these
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (20m 36s):
Ones snap on. Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (20m 37s):
But what I’m saying is it’s, their attachment method may be more novel, but the construction of the vehicle has an internal skeleton. It’s called a body and white. And then the styling body panels bolt to the body and white. I I,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (20m 48s):
I get that. But he was literally just walking me around and going, punk, punk, punk pulling this stuff off. I was like, those just pop off. That’s weird.
Sean P. Holman (20m 56s):
So one more recall, if you own a 2014 Ford F-150, well there’s a problematic sensor. It could cause the transmission to suddenly shift into first gear regardless of speed. That’s bad and that’s bad.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (21m 12s):
That blows up the transmission. It
Sean P. Holman (21m 14s):
Affects, let me just put this number out there for you to soak in 552,188 trucks. What? What? That’s what I said. It’s the powertrain control module, which can lose a signal with the transmission output shaft speed sensor. And then that could cause it to abruptly downshift. And it doesn’t say, oh why, but they’ll update the PCM with new software. The dealer. Yeah. So if you are thinking this maybe happened before, you may remember Ford issued a similar recall all the way back in 2019, but it was at the 2013 F1 fifties and some expeditions and navigators that recall only covered 107,857 vehicles.
Sean P. Holman (21m 56s):
What’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (21m 57s):
Worse in your estimation? And
Sean P. Holman (21m 58s):
By the way, this is all in the six R 86 P automatic.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (22m 1s):
Okay. What’s worse in your estimation, the the Toyota Prius unintended acceleration issue where your vehicle could just lurch forward or you’re going 80 and it shifts into first gear. What’s
Sean P. Holman (22m 12s):
Worse? 80 and shifts into first gear? Yeah, by far the unintended acceleration issue, I still am suspect of that. If you remember, that caused two things to happen in the automotive industry. One is all floor mats are attached to the carpet now, so they can’t slide up and get over the accelerator pedal. Yep, yep. The other thing that manufacturers no longer allow you, except for the few with certain conditions like the Wheel straight at a stop, breaks on for a burnout mode or something, don’t allow you to have the brake and gas engaged at the same time. The difference is if your truck downshifts at 80 into first gear, that’s bad. If you have some sort of unintended acceleration, put it in neutral, turn the car off, just end it,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (22m 54s):
Stand on the brake and
Sean P. Holman (22m 55s):
Well, if your brakes aren’t working or whatever,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (22m 57s):
Whatever
Sean P. Holman (22m 57s):
It doesn’t, you know, just turn it off or put in neutral where, where it doesn’t have motive power anymore. But a lot of people freak out and they don’t know what to do and they just steer and then, you know, there’s things get compounded while they’re, you know, have tunnel vision of trying to get out of this. and I still, you know, that unintended acceleration happened to as a off-duty CHP officer down in San Diego, I believe with the Prius deal. And I’m still not a hundred percent convinced if that was the vehicle or if that was operator error. Because again, even if the floor mat caused it or software caused it, you could still put it in neutral. You could still turn the car off and that would end that episode. So, right. So don don’t know,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 31s):
Or was he wearing Crocs or flip Flip flo
Sean P. Holman (23m 33s):
Floss flip flops or something like that. Yeah,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 35s):
I see that all the time. and
Sean P. Holman (23m 36s):
I mean how many times have you driven and your flip flop got stuck? You’re like, oops, I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 39s):
Don, it’s happened. I don, I don’t drive with flip flops because that’s stupid.
Sean P. Holman (23m 42s):
Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 43s):
Holman. What? Because you’re always wearing flip flops. I got flip flops on right now, beach guy. I know you do. Don’t drive with those.
Sean P. Holman (23m 49s):
Sometimes I just barefoot
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 51s):
It. Yeah, well that’s better. Yeah, I know. Barefoot’s fine.
Sean P. Holman (23m 53s):
Makes me feel like I’m at the beach.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 55s):
You do live at the beach. That’s just in case you have forgotten.
Sean P. Holman (23m 58s):
No, I didn’t forget. And you didn’t forget when You walked into my backyard this
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 1s):
Afternoon. It was, how hot
Sean P. Holman (24m 2s):
Was it at work
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 3s):
Today? Hot as Hades. And right
Sean P. Holman (24m 5s):
Now we have like a, what, what do they call it? A heat dome or
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 7s):
Something? Yes, I. don. Is it called a heat dome? Yeah. Is it really? Yeah, it’s just, seriously, it’s hot. So the gorilla’s nuts. Okay. In
Sean P. Holman (24m 13s):
My office. So what was it at your office today?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 16s):
It was a buck five or something like that was, it was 105 up there. It was awful. don don’t know what it was. It didn’t look at, it was off like here. It’s like 79 here today. I’ll tell you what it was. Hold on with the breeze. Yeah. The answer is it really was 91, but it felt like it was hundred five.
Sean P. Holman (24m 30s):
The old feels like do,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 31s):
Do, do. Yeah, that was humid ’cause of our thunderdome or whatever you said. We have Thunderdome The Truck Show Podcast is a production of truck famous LLC. Between today and tomorrow, we will be experiencing what is called a heat dome. It essentially means minimal cloud cover and clear skies, which allows for more the sun and its radiation to penetrate, intensifying the overall temperature outside.
