Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2s):

All right, Holman, follow me out of the pod shed. Let’s go into the, the Holman front yard. Oh man, it’s so dark out here. You need like a light on the side of your house. Oh, there is a light right there.

Sean P. Holman (19s):

And another light.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (21s):

They’re motion activated. I like that. All right. I got big red. The banks dually out here. Put the tailgate down. I’m gonna climb in.

Sean P. Holman (34s):

Looks like pieces to a headache rack.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (37s):

Those have packing slips on ’em from Temecula, California. Why? Because

Sean P. Holman (44s):

They got powder coated.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (45s):

No, these are my Ballards baby. Oh, your Ballards in bubble wrap. I have no idea why they shipped ’em in bubble wrap. And why

Sean P. Holman (53s):

Did they, how did they come? Where did you get ’em from? Just

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (55s):

Like this. I got these. I’d rather not stay. So did did they get, did they get shipped to you or did pick them up? They got shipped. No, they got shipped FedEx from Canada. No, these didn’t come from Canada. I found somewhere else to get them. Oh, interesting. Well, I didn’t want to pay those ungodly Canadian tariffs or no American tariffs. So I just wanted to let you know that these are real and they’re big and yeah, hopefully this is the answer to keeping the The truck in the front front yard. Honestly, watching torsos

Sean P. Holman (1m 21s):

Are wrapped up in bubble wraps.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 22s):

I know. Well, I was gonna rip it open for you, but No,

Sean P. Holman (1m 25s):

Don’t, don’t scratch the beautiful, I’m gonna come by and bump into ’em with my car or something. I mean, after you have ’em installed, I would

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 30s):

Appreciate you not doing that. So they’re here. Let’s go and do a

Sean P. Holman (1m 34s):

Podcast. I thought you’d never ask

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 37s):

Holman. What’s up on this episode of The Truck? Show Podcast.

Sean P. Holman (1m 41s):

Apparently Lightning receives Ballards.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 44s):

We just, we

Sean P. Holman (1m 45s):

Just did that. Oh, okay. We’re not, we don’t have to. We

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 47s):

We’re moving on. Okay. The next, how to Protect Lightning’s. TRX is gonna be probably when You come to, can we

Sean P. Holman (1m 52s):

Just make that a spinoff miniseries? That way our listeners don’t have to actually listen to any more Lightning T Rx stories.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 58s):

It’s gonna, it’s gonna be a while because we’re gonna have our friend Rich over to the house to drill some giant holes in my driveway.

Sean P. Holman (2m 5s):

Oh boy. Alright, well, ballers aside, this is gonna be a good show. We’ve got our friend Emmy Hall who decided to grace us with her presence tonight in the pod shed at least virtually. So we’ll give her a call here in a little bit. And yeah,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 18s):

Buddy,

Sean P. Holman (2m 19s):

She’s been driving all sorts of trucks and exotics and weird things lately. And we’ll, we’ll drill down on some of her favorite recent vehicle reviews. Plus there’s news on Buddy and I think she’s got merch now, which we, we don’t have

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 32s):

What? She has merch. She has

Sean P. Holman (2m 33s):

Merch. She

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 34s):

Has merch, or Buddy has merch.

Sean P. Holman (2m 35s):

She has merch, so I’m sure She’ll, I’m sure she’ll talk to you about that.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 38s):

I can’t believe she beat us to the shirt game. Alright,

Sean P. Holman (2m 40s):

But before we get into our front Emmy, we have to thank our presenting sponsor, Nissan, who’s been with us for basically the entire run of The, Truck, Show, Podcast. So we can’t thank them enough. And, oh, did I tell you I had my second delivery in my driveway?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 53s):

Second delivery of what?

Sean P. Holman (2m 54s):

The aria. So Nissan, when You buy an aria, they, two weeks later or whenever your schedule allows, they send a specialist to your house to walk you through everything that you still have questions about. And they spend an hour with you. What? Walk you through all your settings and

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 7s):

Like a concierge service. Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (3m 8s):

And so this lady shows up at my house. We set an appointment through the dealership or the app.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 13s):

Was she wearing white gloves? Nope.

Sean P. Holman (3m 15s):

But she came up in a full tilt area and we sat in the driveway and she said, you know, I kind of told her who I was and that I wanted the experience, even though I was pretty familiar with the car. This

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 25s):

Is, wait, you’re a journalist or, or this is for anyone? No,

Sean P. Holman (3m 28s):

No for anyone, for any customer. What? And so one of the executives over at Nissan called me and goes, Hey, I know you’re a journalist. I know it’s, this isn’t normal, but you bought this thing. I want you to experience what we call second delivery. We’re gonna send somebody to your house and explain everything. We’re thinking about expanding it to some other products. I’m interested in your feedback. So the specialist comes to the house and we sat in my car and we went through all the settings and she goes, well, you’re more savvy than, you know, a normal customer. So is there anything that you have questions about? And a few things I’m like, why does it do this? Or what about this? So she gave me some tips. She set a couple settings a little differently than I had ’em. that was awesome. Showed me some stuff there.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 2s):

Did you slap her hand outta the way and go, nah, nah, nah, this is my car. No,

Sean P. Holman (4m 5s):

It was great. And so just shout out to Nissan and I. I think it’s just a really great service and love that thing. So

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 10s):

I haven’t even heard of German car companies doing that. Will you spend $200,000 They don’t come to your house?

Sean P. Holman (4m 15s):

Yeah. So you just, it’s all part of the the process. Wow. I thought that was pretty neat, huh? Well, you know, we love Nissan because they’re trucks and obviously they make a great mid-size truck. And the Nissan Frontier, and you can find out more about it by going to Nissan usa dot com where you can build and price, pick out any of the options you want, and then find a dealership. And they’ll even do the Nissan at home where they’ll come to your house in select areas and give you the Test Drive right outta your driveway. You don’t even have to go to the dealership. So you,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 39s):

So they’re giving you the Test Drive. Yeah. You go to the dealership, you buy it, you get some free coffee and stuff, then you come home and the next day they teach you how to use it. Well

Sean P. Holman (4m 46s):

I th and I think that they even include a lot of paperwork if you do the Nissan at home program. So you’re not sitting there on, you know, the, the mercy of the sales manager on a Sunday afternoon or something like that. So. So anyway, a really great buying experience through Nissan. So again, Nissan usa dot com to build and price or of course if you’re old school, you can head on down to your local Nissan dealership where they’ll be happy to walk you through your new car right there on the showroom floor.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 8s):

Hol and I want you to take a look at the photograph on my phone and describe that. What do you think that that very oily soy object is?

Sean P. Holman (5m 17s):

It looks like a grid heater.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 18s):

That is a grid heater. What year ram is that out of? If you had to guess based on the amount of soot blocking the heater. So very little air is actually getting into the intake manifold.

Sean P. Holman (5m 30s):

I’m trying to look at the different stampings on here. Yeah, good luck with that. Yep.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 34s):

It’s the same part number for it’s, it’s really over seven and a half to 24. That’s gonna be

Sean P. Holman (5m 38s):

Tough. It’s really disgusting looking by the way. Yeah, it looks like it’s, it’s sludgy and I would say 50% of the grid is blocked around the edges. The reason you’re asking me that is it must be pretty new. I’m gonna say 2021.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 51s):

Damn. That’s exactly right. Yeah. Yeah. 2021. Yeah. That’s nuts. So

Sean P. Holman (5m 55s):

Will you post that picture on The Truck, Show Podcast Instagram so people can see what we’re talking about?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (5m 60s):

Yeah, I’ve shot it vertically. Yes, I can do that.

Sean P. Holman (6m 2s):

Because I think that people aren’t gonna believe it until they see and when they see how many miles and how new that is, that that’s the inside of their truck, they’re gonna be like, whoa.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 11s):

So when You buy the bank’s monster Ram, the high flow billet intake plate comes with the monster ram. It replaces all this. So you eliminate grid heater, bolt failure from happening, you eliminate all the places where this really oily soot will stick to and cause restrictions in airflow. Check out the bank’s Monster Ram. It’s 50 state compliant for 2013 all the way to 2024 Ram 6.7 liter Cummins diesels. Head over to Banks Power dot com to get yours.

Sean P. Holman (6m 40s):

Okay, so if I’ve got that problem on my ram, can you reduce the soot with better diesel

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 46s):

Oil? Yes, there. Yes. As a matter of fact, according to Mike Keegan, our engine builder at work, he has seen reduced suiting by using AM oil max duty full synthetic diesel oil.

Sean P. Holman (6m 58s):

So the AM oil signature series, max Duty diesel oil is a hundred percent synthetic. You get it in all sorts of weights. Outstanding extreme pressure protection. It delivers six times more wear protection, maintains proper viscosity, minimizes oil consumption, maximizes fuel efficiency, and excels in extreme temperatures. You can also extend drain intervals with confidence. If you wanna find out more about AMS oil’s, complete line of diesel engine oils, you wanna head over to ams oil dot com and check out their signature series, 100% synthetic max Duty Diesel Oil and Lightning. Before we hit that jingle, did you know we have a new sponsor here on The Truck? Show Podcast? No.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 34s):

No I did not.

Sean P. Holman (7m 36s):

You may remember our friends E-G-R-U-S-A. We did a little podcast from their booth at SEMA last year.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 42s):

Yes. You mean the same EGR that makes the roll track on the back of ITRX?

Sean P. Holman (7m 47s):

Yes. In the same EGR that many of our listeners have said. I’ve got one of those now. Yes. by the way, if you go to truck show podcast dot com and you go to our featured products page, you can check out E-G-R-U-S-A. If you scroll down, you can enter The truck show pod code in the affiliate rebate code online. If you got a EGR roll track tunnel cover, you get a discount. EGR Fender flares, you get a discount. E-G-R-V-S-L-L-E-D headlights. You also get a discount all because of our friends at EGR. They want to take care of The Truck, Show Podcast listener, we love them over there. Great quality products. You wanna head over to egr usa dot com to see the full lineup. So if you bought any of those EGR products, head over to truck show podcast dot com to that featured products page and fill out the form

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 28s):

Where they’ll do it retroactively.

Sean P. Holman (8m 29s):

Yeah, they’ll do it retroactively. What? Where you get a discount by using a truck show pod in the affiliates rebate code and then that and of course that helps out the show. So awesome products, high quality made here in the USA. Yeah,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 41s):

They’re here in America, not far from our studio, but the stuff is made in Australia and the Aussies are insane when it comes to detail. Just, I mean down to the wiring, the packaging, you could beat the snot out of this EGR roll track. It’s designed to take an absolute beating,

Sean P. Holman (8m 58s):

But it’s also full of features. Like being able to, if you have the power one like you do, being able to work with your key fobs when You unlock your doors and it rolls back automatically. The

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 7s):

Fact that when I use my key fob and lock my doors, the roll track. The

Sean P. Holman (9m 10s):

Lock also. Yes. So it’s like having a trunk. Yeah, but you don’t lose your pickup truck bed.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 15s):

No. And it’s fully watertight. Yeah. When it was pouring rain. I never posted that video. What a moron. It just occurs to me during that last rainstorm. Yeah, I got in the bed and shot video of me all the way around, like scooching around. Not a single drop was in my bed and dude, it was buckets coming down. So, alright, well it is EGR roll track is what we’re

Sean P. Holman (9m 33s):

Talking about. Yep. If you want tunnel covers, fender flares, LED lights, window visors, hood guards, body side, moldings, cab spoilers, sport bars, accessories, undersea storage. E-G-R-S-A has it all. Head over to egr usa dot com and they’ll be hanging out with us for the rest of the year. Right here on The. Truck Show Podcast

3 (9m 48s):

4 (10m 20s):

It’s The truck show with your hosts. Lightning and Holman.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 26s):

All right, let’s dial up

3 (10m 27s):

Some Emmy. Emmy time Excited. I love about this excited Emmy.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 31s):

Yes. It’s been a minute. I know you talk to her all the time, but me, not so much. Alright, I will dial Ms. Hall.

Emme Hall (10m 42s):

Hi you guys. What’s going on?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 44s):

What’s happening? Emmy Hall.

Sean P. Holman (10m 46s):

You act like you haven’t talked to her in a while. Bobby, I talked to her like several times a week.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 51s):

You do? I don’t.

Sean P. Holman (10m 52s):

You never talked to her?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 53s):

I would love to. No, I don’t have her number so. Oh. Oh

Sean P. Holman (10m 57s):

No. She figured

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 58s):

Out way too. Stop deleted from my phone so wouldn’t bother. I flexed. No,

Sean P. Holman (11m 1s):

I blocked

Emme Hall (11m 1s):

Lightning. I blocked Lightning a long time ago.

Sean P. Holman (11m 4s):

Pause. Pause. She just flexed on us and Jay talked right through it. What the hell’s wrong with you?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 11s):

What do you mean she

Sean P. Holman (11m 12s):

Flexed on us? Jay.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 13s):

What did, what did she say? It’s

Sean P. Holman (11m 15s):

Not what she said. I heard it.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 18s):

Oh,

Sean P. Holman (11m 19s):

I heard your crappy dive number pepper.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 21s):

Oh, in the background. I see. Got it. Hey, by,

Sean P. Holman (11m 24s):

By the way, I know you know this but it’s interesting that Dr. Pepper is now number two and Diet Dr. Pepper wasn’t anywhere on that list.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 32s):

No it wasn’t.

Emme Hall (11m 33s):

No, but here’s the thing. They didn’t specify if it was diet or regular, they just said diet the whole part.

Sean P. Holman (11m 40s):

Dr. Pepper. Just like my cant

Emme Hall (11m 42s):

A combination,

Sean P. Holman (11m 42s):

My can doesn’t specify diet Dr. Pepper either, but I know that crap’s not inside of it.

Emme Hall (11m 47s):

Whatever diet Dr. Pepper is way better than regular. Dr. Pepper. No. And my skinny ass waist And your big old fatty one proves it.

Sean P. Holman (11m 55s):

Ouch. I’m gonna see that’s a flex. I’m gonna refrain from saying anything because she’s a woman.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 1s):

Yeah, she’s a woman.

Sean P. Holman (12m 2s):

And I will get hate You know what? Bring that into our jingle. Okay. You

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 5s):

Know what, let me just type this into the magic box and out pops this Emmy. Hold on one second.

7 (12m 11s):

She’s got a can in her hand Dive Dr. Better on demand flying high over the land with cast fire side and the plan in a fancy car. She drives expenses, seed heaters, keeping her alive a little too escapes or stride. She’s laughing so hard she could cry. Chip setting around the globe. Faring in style. She’s got her cat in her soda. Makes her smile from Paris.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 50s):

There we go. Emmy, what do you think of your new Intro?

Emme Hall (12m 54s):

That is so true.

Sean P. Holman (12m 57s):

The

Emme Hall (12m 57s):

Whole thing from the cats to the cars to the diet Dr. Pepper. Like it’s like whoever wrote that knew exactly who I am.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 3s):

Exactly.

Sean P. Holman (13m 4s):

She had her, what was it? Stealing hearts and cutting fart shirt on y fart. Fart. Alright, so here’s the thing is I was telling Emmy that she has to come back on because we haven’t heard from her A in a while. And B, because all of her listeners are always asking about her and requesting her. Yeah, buddy drop. And she said, no, you’re lying. And I’m like, no seriously. They write emails and at the end they’ll say, Emmy. Yeah buddy.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 29s):

Do you not know that that’s a thing?

Emme Hall (13m 30s):

No, I I can’t believe that that is true. Listen, I’m a, I’m a very popular person and I have a stellar personality and I’m cute as all get out. But like people leaving

Sean P. Holman (13m 40s):

Emails

Emme Hall (13m 40s):

About the drop. Come on.

Sean P. Holman (13m 42s):

It’s

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 42s):

Gotta be in the hundreds. It has to be

Sean P. Holman (13m 44s):

I, don Dunno. It’s a lot.

Emme Hall (13m 45s):

And what’s so funny you guys is that whole thing was never like, that was just a thing that came out of my mouth and then it got popular from you. And now like Buddy has a

Sean P. Holman (13m 55s):

Literally a following

Emme Hall (13m 56s):

Tshirt on Blitz

Sean P. Holman (13m 56s):

Shift. Yeah, I saw your blitz shirt

Emme Hall (13m 58s):

And like a whole falling and it’s, I cannot believe that I actually owe something to you guys.

Sean P. Holman (14m 2s):

Yeah, me either.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 4s):

Wait, tell me about the shirt on Blip Shift. How did that happen? Well if you follow

Sean P. Holman (14m 7s):

And came her social you would help.

Emme Hall (14m 8s):

Yeah. Well

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 11s):

Emme Hall (14m 11s):

So Lightning, you don’t know about Blip

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 13s):

Shift. I know about the website where you can buy cool shirts like one-off shirts that are contributed by cool artists. But I did not know that you had one.

Emme Hall (14m 22s):

It just came out today. I did not design it. A guy named Guy Sims, he’s Guy Rickers on Instagram. He designed it ’cause I really like his work. and I think it’s really fun. And yeah, I just emailed Blip Shift. I I saw that Jeff Lucker had a, he works for Kelly Blue Book and Autoblog and he’s got this really cool montero and he had a blip shift shirt with his montero and I was like, wait a minute. Like can I just like, can anyone just do that? So I’ve emailed them and they were like, yeah, just send in your design and if we think it’s cool we’ll run it. I was like, heck yeah. So I did and they liked it. And so now I have a T-shirt that is available through July 9th on Blip Shift.

Emme Hall (15m 3s):

Damn. And all of the proceeds go to Sons of Smokey slash Gambler 500 and that. And that helps clean up public lands.

Sean P. Holman (15m 11s):

So there you have it.

Emme Hall (15m 12s):

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I’m trying to do it for like a good, cause I couldn’t go to the Gambler 500 this year, which was just this past weekend I had to work and I, I chose Porsche over the Gambler 500, which is like, I feel kind of bad, but like, not

Sean P. Holman (15m 24s):

Really. Kate very angry with you.

Emme Hall (15m 27s):

No, Kate knew. It’s fine.

Sean P. Holman (15m 29s):

All right. All right.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 30s):

Well I’m trying to find it here on blip dot com. That’s, I’m trying to make up for, I’m, I’m trying to find it here. Why don’t

Sean P. Holman (15m 35s):

You go in shop, go go to to

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 37s):

Instagram shops? Yep. Okay. Go to shop, right. Design stock to,

Emme Hall (15m 41s):

And then at the top of shop there should be partner stores

Sean P. Holman (15m 45s):

Or if partner stores easily, oh there

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 48s):

It is. Yeah. Buddy Emmy Hall. Right in the front top Lefthand corner. Go

Sean P. Holman (15m 51s):

To at, yeah Emmy. So that’s yeah, EMME on Instagram. And you can find it that way too.

Emme Hall (15m 57s):

Yeah, it’s in my, the link is in my bio. Dude,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 59s):

This shirt is so like 1983 is it is Buddy sticker. This is super cool. It’s the one,

Emme Hall (16m 3s):

It’s so great.

Sean P. Holman (16m 4s):

I think it’s the same one we have. Yeah, it’s the same one we have in in the pod shed. Yeah. Yeah, buddy

Emme Hall (16m 8s):

Here. No it’s not, it’s, it’s different. Not updated. It’s an updated version. So it’s the same idea but like Buddy got a few updates, like different wheels, different tires, some different like window nets and like he’s more racy now for sure. I mean

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (16m 21s):

Your artist took some liberties

Emme Hall (16m 22s):

Back to you Dyson and Well what do you mean he’s so perfect? He has the rigid lights on there and he is got the number. He’s got a car tech sticker. I mean that’s so cool.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (16m 33s):

That’s super cool. Emmy Hall loves Buddy the Off-Road Miata more than life itself and will happily talk your ear off about him. However, when she’s not jumping, sliding or hoing the wheels off this little nb, she’s out writing for all things automotive for sites like Car and Driver, the Utopian and Inside EVs. Wait, you didn’t

Sean P. Holman (16m 49s):

Use ov What?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (16m 51s):

No, she’s

Sean P. Holman (16m 52s):

Written for OVR. Damn. Bird. Bird Super Bird.

Emme Hall (16m 55s):

Oh that’s right. I have, yeah. Oh, sorry.

Sean P. Holman (16m 58s):

Wow. You know, counting on her fingers, the four outlets and she forgets, you know, one of ’em from her French Sean.

Emme Hall (17m 4s):

Oh, the four outlets. You go straight to hell in Del Taco.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 7s):

I mean, aren’t you guys bigger than the Utopian now? I

Sean P. Holman (17m 9s):

Feel like. Hey, so you’ve been all over the place. I I’ve, I saw you in France on D-Day with you and Lynn. Yes. and I saw you. Yes. Were you riding around in the Maserati boats the other day? I saw you the Porsche stuff, like you got a lot of stuff going on that’s not here. What? What the hell? What do you,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 26s):

What’d you say? Maserati boats.

Emme Hall (17m 28s):

I was not on the Maserati boats. I wish I had been on the Maserati boats but I, I was not, which was kind of a bummer but you know like we can’t all be Maserati boat people. Yeah I didn’t, I didn’t get on that trip. No, I was on the driving the new Cayenne GTS which was super fun. What am I doing next? New Explorer Ford Explorer or is it Expedition? No, it’s the Explorer and Audi SQ sevens and some Mercedes A MG stuff. and I have a ZR two Colorado bison A EV in my driveway right now.

Sean P. Holman (18m 0s):

Damn. I mean fucking

Emme Hall (18m 1s):

Love this truck so much you guys.

Sean P. Holman (18m 3s):

She just drove the new in Infinity QX 80 as well. That she Was it Mr. Fudgy? Is that what you were calling it? Mr. Fudgy? Why Oh? yeah,

Emme Hall (18m 12s):

Fudgy the whale.

Sean P. Holman (18m 13s):

Fudgy the whale. Was it brown? Why? Why

Emme Hall (18m 16s):

It wasn’t brown. But they’re so big.

Sean P. Holman (18m 20s):

Rewind because I need to hear that order because all those vehicles, I’m personally interested. Screw you listeners. This is about Lightning. Wait, tell me, wait first about the cayenne G Ts. Shouldn’t you normally say screw you listeners? Because isn’t it normally about Lightning? Yes. This whole show. It always is. Yes. So right now you felt like, to put it you need to put a disc displayer, I’m, I’m just putting it out there. Is that for Emmy? Because we’re not our listener. Tune out because the next few minutes are about me all whatever. Let’s go. Tell me about the cayenne GTS.

Emme Hall (18m 44s):

Okay, so GTS it’s got, it’s a V eight, right? So it’s almost 500 horsepower. You’ve gotta still option. Like Porsche loves their options, right? So like all of like the really good stuff like the air suspension, dynamic suspension, like that’s extra and everything’s extra is extra.

Sean P. Holman (18m 59s):

They’ll be like, do you want chrome on your door handle 500 bucks? Do you want

Emme Hall (19m 3s):

It’s all

Sean P. Holman (19m 4s):

Extra. Yeah. Do you want lit up door seals a thousand dollars, you want metallic paint $50,000, you want this Wheel? It’s like well the base car must come with nothing. So I agree

Emme Hall (19m 15s):

But Holman what’s really cool about that is that you could get the base model and you could spend less money on the base model, get a less powerful engine if that was your thing. And still get all of those handling characteristics. How

Sean P. Holman (19m 26s):

Is it not my thing?

Emme Hall (19m 27s):

Like

Sean P. Holman (19m 28s):

No but no, but that’s kind of cool. That is what I was getting at. I don’t want a less engine like my wife’s Macon, she’s got all the cool stuff that makes it look like a G tf. No, not all this but a lot of it. Don’t gimme that smirk. Are you, are you really gonna try and sell? Hold on, wait a minute. She’s got a lot of the upgrades that make it look like the more and feel like the more expensive from the outside, from the, the inside is a little, is a little conno. It’s way I was listen but nice outside. It looks as in passing by the average Porsche. Yeah. Enthusiast would you added stuff you added. Yes. You lowered it. that was it. That’s the only thing I’ve done. Haven’t done wheels on that thing. Nope. Bone stock. They got the upgraded wheels though. Yes. Okay. And exhausting.

Sean P. Holman (20m 8s):

So that wasn’t yeah, no, no. Emmy brought up, she said you can buy all these things and add ’em at the dealership. which I think is kind of cool. Here’s what I’m saying. I’m saying that Porsche at their premium makes one of the finest automobiles in the entire world. But the fact that they keep trying to lower the price of admission into the brand, they have bastardized the lower ones. Like your, your wife’s Macon. It’s a Volkswagen. It’s a really nice Volkswagen. It I know that. Incredible Volkswagen. Yes. Not a great Porsche. Yeah, no there’s when You, I had it up on the lift when I was putting the springs in. Yeah it’s got Audi and Volkswagen logo. It’s all over the and all that Oh. yeah the Atlas Sport or whatever that she had. Yeah, for sure. I thought it was way nicer for the price point than what the Porsche is way nicer. I agree

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (20m 47s):

That she just wanted some I know,

Sean P. Holman (20m 48s):

I get it. I’m not, I’m not judging her. I’m just talking about the

Emme Hall (20m 51s):

Car I the base Cayenne is what, $85,000 and and that’s what the V six with like 300 something horsepower. The GTS starts at 125 with 500 horsepower and zero to 60 and 4.4. Which honestly like after you’ve, after you’ve started doing some electric vehicles, you’re like 4.4 is so slow and it’s like God, what do we come to?

Sean P. Holman (21m 16s):

Well I, okay, so not to totally turn it around into a Nissan commercial, but I bought my aria. Right. So I’ve been driving that. Yeah. My daily, it’s the base model. But the nice thing about the aria is they all look the same except for the top, top, top. Was it platinum plus everyone all the out the trim’s the same, the wheels are the same. It’s all gloss black. There’s no black plastic on the outside. That’s unpainted. Everything’s the same. The where they get you is to go up in trim is nicer seat materials. Although they’re the identical seats. A power memory on the passenger

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (21m 47s):

Side are the insets. What, what’s changed down? Yeah,

Sean P. Holman (21m 49s):

It’s is fake leather versus real leather. I see panoramic sunroof. Yeah. A power lift gate or dual motor and bigger batteries. So that’s, that’s the only thing. So the basic model that I got freaking awesome, I put 2000 miles on that thing already. I drive it every day and it’s honestly one of the finest cars I’ve ever I’ve ever owned. I like, I’m blown away at how good that car is for its price point. And and that’s one of the things where,

Emme Hall (22m 10s):

And it probably is really quick off the line and super fun, huh?

Sean P. Holman (22m 14s):

For only having 221 pound feet of torque. Yeah, it’s, I mean it still does zero, 60 and seven seconds so it’s not super slow but it’s not, you know, crazy fast the, if you get the dual motor does it? Yeah, zero 60 in four and a half seconds. He didn’t

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (22m 25s):

Buy this for performance. No. Bought wanted it to take the kids.

Sean P. Holman (22m 27s):

I bought it to run around town but I’ve driven it to Palm Springs. Yeah. And I’ve got a trip to San Diego coming up that I’m gonna take it down there for and it’s like the more time I spend with that, that to me the reason I bring it up is ’cause that’s a base model done. Right? That base model. Yeah. Everybody who gets in, they’re like, oh my god you have two 12 in screens and you have all this stuff and you have this ambient Lighting. You have they

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (22m 47s):

And they and the sound system didn’t suck. No,

Sean P. Holman (22m 48s):

The sound system’s great. So they don’t kill the brand equity by having the entry level model where I feel like some of the European brands really go on a cheap, cheap, cheap cost cutting to meet that price point. and I feel like that’s the difference between a Japanese car company and a German car company and a luxury brand since versus a mainstream brand.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 6s):

Although my kids’ Mazda three,

Sean P. Holman (23m 9s):

The one that you just got. Yes. ’cause he graduated from college. Yes. So

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 12s):

He, he leaves Tim a car and he’s got Oh

Sean P. Holman (23m 15s):

You’re gonna say about, oh I know what you’re gonna bring up. You do. I wonder if Emmy knows that about the base model three. I don’t

Emme Hall (23m 21s):

Know, let hear it. The base model three

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 22s):

It, yeah, so the base model three Emmy doesn’t have the, they have like a turbo version that you get a better sound system and you, you know, just all the packages like that. Yeah. So we got, we got the base but we got the really cool color called ceramic, which is kind of an offwhite kind of a really super light gray. Super duper light gray. Really neat with some pearlescent in it. Anyway. Okay so the stereo we’re playing with the stereo and we thought this is weird, I can’t hear any back speakers. So I faded all the way to the back, nothing and I go, well that’s no

Emme Hall (23m 50s):

Back

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 50s):

Speakers. So that, that’s odd. and I look back in the doors and there’s grills for speakers and I take a flashlight, shine it in there. Ain’t no speaker in there. So I call up a buddy in a

Emme Hall (23m 59s):

Mazda three. Yes.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 0s):

So I call up a buddy who designs the man machine interfaces for Mazda and he goes Oh. yeah, starting in 23 we no longer put the speakers in the base model and it’s a different amplifier under the passenger seat that doesn’t have a rear channel. I’m like, what you, what? Why no way. That is what you saying

Sean P. Holman (24m 19s):

Learning the king of audio bought a car with no rear speakers in it.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 24s):

So, so I obsessed over it for the first two weeks but I said Gavin who’s my kid? I said, are you okay with it? He goes, dad, it sounds fine to me. It sounds fine. and I go, you know the kids now are like, they listen to crappy headsets and like Air pods and stuff. Like he didn’t bother him but like to me I was going just berserk. So I called and I said, oh can I get the different amplifier? Can I swap it in for the more expensive And I can wire the speakers and the whole thing. My dad and my kid’s like Dad don’t just like slow your roll, it’s all good Emmy, let’s go onto the other car. So to wrap up the Porsche, how did you get asked to do it? What’s that part of where are we gonna read about it and then what’s the next car? So

Emme Hall (24m 58s):

They invited me, well actually they invited a, a website called slash Gear and slash Gear asked me to do it. So it is live with slash gear right now and then it will be live on CarGurus, which is definitely a more like consumer focused site. Love CarGurus probably, probably tomorrow or Thursday. Did

Sean P. Holman (25m 16s):

You say I love

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (25m 17s):

CarGurus? I do. You mean

Sean P. Holman (25m 18s):

You went on it to research your Mazda three and they never told you you didn’t have your speakers?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (25m 22s):

I didn’t go on there to research, no. I bought my Mercedes off CarGurus and I was originally looking at used TXs way back on CarGurus. So there’s no endorsement for them but I just like the, the ui it’s like super easy. It is super easy to use. Yeah, so a big fan. Yeah, it is. What’s next in the line of Emmy reviews?

Emme Hall (25m 41s):

In terms of reviews? I’ve got actually the new Mitic coming, the new 2024. So I’m excited about that. And then Ford Explorer and then, yeah and I’m looking forward to the Audi ’cause we’re doing the the SQ and then and the regular queue. So that’ll be fun ’cause I haven’t been in an SQ in a really, really, really long time. And then it’s A-M-G-C-L-E as well.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (26m 2s):

So now let’s talk about The truck that’s sitting in your driveway.

Emme Hall (26m 5s):

It’s so good. I love this truck so much. If I had, if I had 60 grand I would go buy it right now. Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (26m 11s):

60 grand’s a lot of money right

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (26m 12s):

Now. So give us the recap of what it is.

Emme Hall (26m 15s):

Okay, so I’ve got the new Colorado ZR two bison with the a EB package. So this is the top of the top of the top of the top. Holman and I were on the original launch of this that was out here in Johnson Valley where we did some like pretty technical rock falling. Yes we did. And because this thing has a front locker, it like, it doesn’t care. It doesn’t, it’ll, it’ll just climb up anything and it’s great in the whoops, you know, like 50 miles an hour through the whoops without a deal because it’s got those jounce bumpers that really help soak up the compression once the shocks get really high. Compress those jounce bumpers just take up the last little bit of it. And the Multimatic shocks are the, I mean they’re great, they’re awesome.

Emme Hall (26m 57s):

I love them so much.

Sean P. Holman (26m 57s):

They’re probably the best. So much shocks out there that come on a factory package of almost anything in the offroad.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (27m 4s):

Hold on a second. Do you like ’em better than the the Bill Stein?

Sean P. Holman (27m 8s):

It’s a different, it’s a different Black Hawk. Black Hawks don’t come on an OE shock. Oh, on the TRX? Yeah. Oh that’s a, okay. A Black Hawk Equa. Yes. Which is different than the old Black Hawk. There’s in the mid-size price class, there’s nothing better period than the Multimatic in the fulls size trucks. So you look at a SA Chevy Silverado ZR two, but

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (27m 28s):

They have the Multimatic now hold

Sean P. Holman (27m 30s):

On in the half ton space, which is where the T rx plays Multimatic is on the ZR two. But no, they’re not as good as the, the Bilstein T RX shocks. They don’t have electronic control and they don’t have as much travel. And so that the ZR two 1500 Silverado is not as well buttoned up as The truck for go fast as the TRX and also the Raptor is, but it’s really good. Yeah. Against like a TRD Pro Tundra.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (27m 57s):

Gotcha.

Emme Hall (27m 58s):

I would take a A ZR two full size over a TRD Tundra any day of the

Sean P. Holman (28m 2s):

Week. I I would too any day. But I would take the TRX or the RHO over either of those any day.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (28m 8s):

Do you guys think that there’s a future electronic version of the multimatic shock

Sean P. Holman (28m 12s):

Setup? There could be. Yeah.

Emme Hall (28m 14s):

But I feel like the shims and the valve, like the, the valves and the, that they have and, and all of the shimming and the spool valves and blah, blah blah. Like that’s basically doing what the electronic shocks, like what the Fox live valve shocks do. It’s just doing it more mechanically. Now, whether or not they could add some electric stuff to that and make it respond faster, I don’t know. But I have never felt like those shocks have been slow to react to changing terrain. Yeah. The way I’ve

Sean P. Holman (28m 42s):

Never felt that the way the spool valves work is they’re, they’re very, very fast. So I’ll go back out with the, with the caveat mid-size truck category. Nothing’s better than Multimatic half ton truck, the Bill Stein Black Hawks are the best. And then you go back up to heavy duty shocks again, the multimatic that are on the Silverado HDS and the Sierra hds, there’s nothing in the full size truck that’s as good as those.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (29m 4s):

It’s interesting. They, I feel like yeah, Ram could have parlayed the Black Hawk E squared into a full size haven’t, but they they

Sean P. Holman (29m 12s):

Could You mean into a, like a ram?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (29m 14s):

I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Into a Yeah. Heavy duty. Heavy duty three quarter one

Sean P. Holman (29m 17s):

Time. Well, the problem is those shocks are already incredibly expensive. I mean they, they’ve prob they’re probably triple the cost of a normal shock. And then a lot of chassis development tuning needs to go into it because it’s reading from CAN Bus and all the sensors and things like that where the Multimatic to Emmy’s point are just a hydro mechanical. Yeah. And, and they work. I would, you could definitely add electronic overlay because spool valves have been used on ZZL ones and Race Camaros and, and the the Ford GT race car program, all that. Yeah. Those, those are all electronics. So yeah, you can add that overlay. But there’s something I love about the simplicity of a really, really well dialed in mechanical setup. ’cause it’s just one less thing you gotta worry about.

Sean P. Holman (29m 57s):

Yeah. Would

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (29m 58s):

You, would you like these over a set of kings and I ask that because you know, everyone, all everyone listening is like, I gotta have a set of

Sean P. Holman (30m 5s):

Kings, bro. So Emmy has her dad’s old truck that she inherited and they ha

Emme Hall (30m 9s):

And I have they have kings? They have kings,

Sean P. Holman (30m 11s):

Yeah. It’s a Colorado

Emme Hall (30m 13s):

And yeah, it’s a 2015 Colorado with a lift and total chaos, upper control arms with ball joints. And then the 2.5 kings with reservoirs and I mean and they’re, they’re great off road. Yeah. But is it great on the pavement? Like no.

Sean P. Holman (30m 26s):

Yeah. What I would say is that if you aren’t planning on doing anything more in the AAV bison version of the Colorado pretty much has everything done. You’re not planning on going long travel suspension or anything like that. There’s no reason to change that suspension at all. It’s, it’s very, very dial factory.

Emme Hall (30m 43s):

Yeah, no, it’s great. Yeah. It’s perf it’s great.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (30m 44s):

Great. And Emmy, how long do you have The truck and what do you plan to do with it? Is it a short term or long-term loaner and are you

Emme Hall (30m 50s):

No, it’s just, it’s just a shortterm or we’re actually shooting tomorrow with the, the ZR two, the Ranger Raptor and the, the Tacoma TRD Pro. Oh wow. So I’m shooting a video for Edmond. So we’re doing some rock crawling, we’re doing some, whoops. We’re doing an acceleration test. So, and I’m excited about that because I haven’t had the ranger raptor in anything that I thought really challenged it. Like the launch that we went on, the rock crawling section was a joke. We could have done it in two Wheel Drive. Yeah. And we didn’t do any, whoops. We did a fun little rally course and that was cool, but I didn’t get to see what those Fox live valves can do in, in the whoops. And the regular raptor is so great in the whoops and so fast.

Emme Hall (31m 31s):

And if you can like keep yourself from having a code brown in an F-150 Raptor in the, whoops, you can go really f fast. Like does the Ranger Raptor, is it like, you know, just like a little mini version. Can I hit, can I go 50? Can I go 55 through the, whoops. So that’s what I’ve really wanna test.

Sean P. Holman (31m 47s):

I think the big raptor is gonna kill the little raptor just driving those trucks back, back to back. I think that the Colorado AV Bison edition is probably better than the Raptor in terms of suspension. But I love the Raptor Drive train. The, probably the range of Raptor is only 30 threes and it has about the same Wheel travel as the ZR two. It’s about 10 inches or so.

Emme Hall (32m 11s):

But the Ranger rafter also doesn’t have as much ground clearance and its front approach angle isn’t that great, right? It’s way worse than the, than the Colorado. But it does have more power. It’s got that V six and I’ve just got the turbo four in the ZR two. But one thing that I really wanted to do was tow with the ZR two because towing with my 2015 Colorado is a nightmare. And all I’m towing is like 5,000 pounds. But coming up the grade to my house, I’ve got two really steep hills to go up and when it’s hot, my truck hasn’t overheated all the way, but it gets real, real close. So this afternoon I hitched up buddy and one thing that I needed to get was a drop hitch because it’s so high I couldn’t, my trailer would’ve been like at a severe angle.

Emme Hall (32m 54s):

So I had to make, I had to install the drop hitch and then took it down, towed it up like 25 miles and it warmed up a little bit but it didn’t come nearly like I didn’t panic at all, which was great. and I don’t think, because now I have a nine speed transmission and in the 2015 it’s like a six speed, like it’s terrible. So in the older Colorado, like the transmission’s just all over the place and it can’t figure out where it wants to go. And it’s either super high revs or super low revs and it’s so much easier and so much more well sorted in the co in the new Colorado with the new powertrain and transmission, with the turbo four, like coming from a stop, I can feel it like really working to get that momentum going.

Emme Hall (33m 36s):

Whereas in the older one with the B six, it’s like, yeah I got a little bit more power. Like I’m cool, but once it gets going, it’s way better.

Sean P. Holman (33m 43s):

So I wish I could take the Raptor drive train and drop it in the Chevy platform and body. Yeah,

Emme Hall (33m 48s):

That’d be, that’d be rad.

Sean P. Holman (33m 48s):

Because that’s the best of world. Here’s what I, here’s what I don’t like is on the Chevy Colorado, they don’t change the gear ratio because they have that eight speed transmission with a really low first gear and so they don’t change the rear end. and I believe, if I’m not cor if I’m not mistaken, it’s a 3 31. Are

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (34m 7s):

You stuck with it the way that they’re doing with the new full size when we’re talking to remember Ola and we were trying to put out the, the, the, the notice to the world that you’re stuck with whatever wheels, tires, and gears you’re given by GA GM now.

Sean P. Holman (34m 20s):

So, so that’s, that’s two points, right? Final drive is 3 4 3 42. So 3.42. So normally you would put 30 fives on something and you would jump that up to probably a four 10, maybe, maybe even a 4 56. Yeah. The problem is is GM keeps it as a, at a 3 42. So on the 35 inch tire package especially, you can tell there’s, so I don’t like the turbo four because there’s a little bit of turbo lag, but GM’s also really lazy with the transmission. And so those two on top of each other with 30 fives and a 3 42 makes driving it in precision things not as crisp. Whereas forward with the Ranger raptor, it’s super crisp. So the fidelity of the throttle input and the fidelity of the inputs in general feel better to me than the Raptor.

Sean P. Holman (35m 4s):

It feel better to me in the raptor when it comes to drivetrain. But I like the chassis and the suspension tuning and, and the tire size of the, of the Colorado.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (35m 13s):

Are there any modes Yeah, drive modes on the Colorado to overcome that

Emme Hall (35m 17s):

Laginess? Yeah. Yeah. So there’s a tow hall mode, there’s a Baja mode, normal terrain and off road. And so terrain will put, will do like a one pedal drive where like when You lift off a throttle it’ll break which I mean? That’s, that’s cool if you that

Sean P. Holman (35m 32s):

But I, I hate that one. Pedal drive is not a selling feature. It’s for me. I hate it. Yeah.

Emme Hall (35m 36s):

It’s not for not for me either, but for, you know, some people, some people like it, but, so there, there are ways that you can get it to open up but there’s no paddle shifters I don’t think. There’s no manual on offer

Sean P. Holman (35m 49s):

And I think the, yeah, I think the interiors are kind of a toss up. I like how narrow the center stack is on the Ranger. So you have a lot of knee room, it doesn’t feel cramped. Yeah. Where you sit like you do on a lot of mid-size trucks. But what I don’t like is, ’cause the screen is high, they put the center vents for the climate control are right in line with the shifter. So if you have your hand on the shifter, if the heater, the AC is on one hand is way harder. Oh that sucks. Or way colder than every, than anything else. Right? Yeah. And it doesn’t have a headlight switch. Yeah. The headlights are buried in. Yeah.

Emme Hall (36m 18s):

That’s the

Sean P. Holman (36m 18s):

Worst. I don’t like that.

Emme Hall (36m 20s):

That’s the worst. It’s the worst. But the Ford has the locker button on the screen and that’s,

Sean P. Holman (36m 25s):

I know, i I hate that too. It’s like all of those like off-road controls, secondary controls should have hard buttons with them. They shouldn’t be buried in electronics.

Emme Hall (36m 33s):

Absolutely. Absolutely. Because when

Sean P. Holman (36m 35s):

You’re trying to navigate so bad offroad your pants over the place, you’re always around. There’s no way there needs to be hard buttons for that. And, and the manufacturers have gotten a little bit too fancy. I mean you even heard Scout came out and said, Hey we’re gonna have lots of hard buttons for our secondary features on the vehicle or secondary controls because we understand people offroading like to have buttons and yeah we like to have buttons. So tho those are kinda the differences. I think the seats are pretty comparable between the two if I remember correctly. And the highway drive is, is really good on both of ’em. I just love that you can get 30 fives on a mid-size truck from the factory and you know, the Ranger raptor has a little bit more payload than the Chevy zero two bison Yeah. On the call log. But you have to remember the Chevy’s got which ready bumpers, it has the rear bumper, the beefy tow hooks, full skid plating, rock rails, 35 inch tires.

Sean P. Holman (37m 23s):

So all that stuff you would’ve done anyway in the aftermarket is already done for you. And a lot of people are gonna go add a bunch of that crap to their TRD pro or their ranger raptor to get it up to that level. It just for a full warranty outta the box 30 fives on The truck are absolutely perfect. and I heard a rumor there may be a way to do a bigger tire at some point that we’ll talk about in the future interest. Oh, oh, I know about

Emme Hall (37m 43s):

There’s always a way to do a bigger tire as long as it involves a Sawzall. So you’re fine.

Sean P. Holman (37m 48s):

I’m I’m just saying stay, stay tuned. All right. No, he means programming in the ECM and such. Well the more than that but, alright. Emmy, I know that you recently took out the, the lesser mid-size trucks. You had a what? A Ranger XLT or sport a Chevy. Was it a trail boss and then a Yeah, we had,

Emme Hall (38m 5s):

So we had a tremor, we had a ranger tremor, we had the Z 71 and then we had the TRD off road

Sean P. Holman (38m 11s):

Sport. Okay. Off road. I want to hear about those three ve those three vehicles. ’cause that’s the middle of the road of the mid-size class. That’s not the full off-road packages. Right. It’s like the, the the daily weekend warrior equipment level. Yeah. Yeah. And then I want to hear your honest, true comments about the new Tacoma.

Emme Hall (38m 28s):

So what I really liked about the Tacoma on that, in that video, so that was on Edmonds and that just went live like I think this week is we did a little section where like you would get one Wheel up and one Wheel up going up a hill. And on the idea was go as slow as possible, like how far could you get before you had to engage the rear locker. And on all of ’em, like as soon as the Wheel started slipping it was like, it’s not gonna go. and I had to do the, I had to hit the locker button but I didn’t have to on the Tacoma. ’cause it has that eight track thing which like kind of functions as like a, like a half a locker type of thing. And it made it up this section of the hill in, in going slowly like not using momentum without locking the rear end. And I’m like, okay, that’s, that part’s pretty cool.

Emme Hall (39m 9s):

I enjoyed that part. Once we got to like a high speed wash section, the Tacoma just felt like it was all over the place. I felt like I was really manhandling it to get it to turn. There was a lot of under steer, like understeering like almost off of the track and I was like breaking and like brushing the brakes and getting the weight transferred to the front end and it was still just like, ah, you know, i, I wanna go right. And it’s just totally going straight of all of ’em. The Colorado in that felt the best in terms of turbo lag and in terms of precise steering in, in a lot of that faster that a lot of that faster stuff. We did some things with like underbody cameras and like using the cameras to be your spotter and I think the forward one in that one.

Emme Hall (39m 55s):

’cause it does have a pretty crisp forward facing camera. I like the hybrid engine in the Tacoma. I think it’s super Toky and I. The power delivery is is pretty smooth. But I’m still like, don don’t like the interior very well. Yeah, it doesn’t tow as much as the others. Like don don’t know do you? I still, I’m just not on.

Sean P. Holman (40m 14s):

Yeah. Do you feel like, and, and I’m gonna say this and maybe it’s too harsh. Do you feel like maybe it’s a miss a little bit because I, I I think it’s a really nice truck. I think that, but it maybe it’s not as much of a departure from the old Tacoma and styling. It’s definitely a Tacoma. But then when You get to the interior, it has that very like, like cartoony giant screen and switch gear. Yeah. And it’s not, it’s not like sophisticated or elegant at all. It’s just like, it works good, it’s fine. It, it just looks like Legos or modular or like cartoony size button. You’re kinda like, it’s not as nice. Like you get into even a a, a Ranger Lariat interior or the way that Chevy has done a good job of integrating their two big screens in the Colorado.

Sean P. Holman (40m 60s):

It’s just doesn’t feel as sophisticated. It’s more like, it feels like a teenager’s car than, than somebody that has Yeah. $50,000 to spend on a bigger truck. It

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (41m 7s):

Feels younger for sure.

Emme Hall (41m 9s):

Yeah. But I think that Toyota was really paying attention to their powertrain for this, for this new next generation. ’cause remember the old Tacoma still had a 5G transmission and it was garbage Oh. yeah it

Sean P. Holman (41m 18s):

Was garbage. It was awful.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (41m 20s):

Emmy with that turbo, the one that I had recently and drove it around a little bit, the Tacoma, it has a fair amount of lag I noticed on this truck. Now this truck had 30 fives on it and, and a king lift and the whole thing. And it was outfitted, you know, with the whole over landing packs a lot of weight. But it had some lag. Yeah. The power came on like any turbo does. and I expected it to keep pulling, but then it got flat really fast. don don’t know if that was just this, this one. How did you feel like the, because the turbo came up, it felt kind of like a two stroke bike where it just came up on the pipeline and then that was kind of it. It didn’t continue to pull.

Emme Hall (41m 56s):

Yeah. Did did you have the hybrid or you just had the regular turbo?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (41m 59s):

Regular turbo? I’ve driven the hybrid tundra but not the, I don’t even know the

Sean P. Holman (42m 5s):

Totally different it’s V six versus versus a four cylinder

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (42m 8s):

Two. Yeah, I understand the four, but I don’t think the hybrid is available yet. Is it the hybrid? I think, I don’t think it’s on the street yet.

Emme Hall (42m 15s):

The hybrid, I think actually I’m getting the hybrid tomorrow because we have a TRD Pro and all TRD pros are the hybrid, so, so I think that’ll be the first time that I get to sample it. I’ve sampled it in the Land Cruiser and in the tundra and I like it in those two with the V six. So I’m hoping that I will like it also with the four cylinder. But yeah, I mean I, you know, I’d have to take a look at the torque curve to see, to see what it does and that it might be a function of having all that extra weight and you know, having bigger tire. Were you guys re geared at all for 30 fives? No.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (42m 45s):

No. This is

Sean P. Holman (42m 46s):

Not geared, it was not re geared. No. Have, so you, I didn’t get a chance to drive the Land Cruiser. I had an opportunity to and it just didn’t work with my schedule. And that’s got basically the same powertrain, the four cylinder turbo hybrid that’s gonna be in the TRD Pro. So that’s kind of maybe a hint at at what’s to come. What did you like the way the Land Cruiser drove? ’cause I’ve sat in the gx, I’ve sat in the Land Cruiser both at media, the media reveals, but I did not have a chance to drive either. And I’ve heard nothing but really good things about how they drive.

Emme Hall (43m 15s):

I mean, all I did in the Land Cruiser was, we were at Pismo this past weekend and so like I drove it on the Sand Highway back to camp. Okay.

Sean P. Holman (43m 23s):

So

Emme Hall (43m 23s):

Not a lot. I didn’t, I haven’t took it on the highway. I haven’t like, but I mean the, what was interesting is a friend of mine was in a Bronco and I rode with her and then I got in the Land Cruiser and I drove it and I was like, wow the power delivery here is like so much smoother than it is in the Bronco. Yeah. And like with that electric assist, like there’s that perk comes on sooner and it’s just really, really smooth and it’s really easy to modulate and like, I mean I hope they don’t have issues like their, like the tundras are having with their hybrids and all of those that recall stuff. But I, you know, I think it’s a win for fuel economy and it’s a win for performance as long as it’s gonna keep that Toyota reliability.

Sean P. Holman (44m 0s):

Out of all the trucks that you’ve driven this year, any, any size, any trim level, any brand? What is your favorite truck and why?

Emme Hall (44m 8s):

It’s the zero two and I just love it. I love it so much. I don’t, I personally don’t want a full-size truck. They’re too big. I don’t need anything that big. I, you know, we’ve already talked about how much we love the suspension on the Z ZR two. I just, I love the way it looks. I love the colors that I can get. I’ve got that like cool like yellow acid, yellow green that for this week. And it’s, I I just, I love everything about it. I can’t afford it and I have to drive my Colorado until I run it into the ground, which at 200,000 miles now it’s not, it’s probably gonna happen pretty soon. I’m, I’m definitely a Colorado person until I drive the Raptor tomorrow in the, whoops. And then we’ll see. I

Sean P. Holman (44m 46s):

I, I wanna know ’cause we’ve driven the Colorado on 35 to the jounce shocks through the, whoops. And it’s stupid. Like it’s stupid good. Yeah. And it’s fun. Stupid. Exactly. And that chassis is really, really stout. Like you can huck it off stuff and it feels really good when it lands and it feels like you can make a mistake and go into hot and it’s got enough suspension to, to absorb it and not have any secondary stuff. Like you said, when we drove the Ranger Raptors, they were, it was nice, but it wasn’t a course that really pushed them all that hard. I I know that, that vehicle has a lot.

Emme Hall (45m 17s):

It No, I was, I was surprised at that launch. I was like, this is not what I wanted.

Sean P. Holman (45m 22s):

Well, when You were, that was struck you went to the Raptor, our launch as well. But you and I were on different waves by like a day, I think. Right? And so we didn’t get a chance to, to drive together, but I felt like the Raptor R course was really good like that, that was, I know that showcased it big time. Whereas the, the Ranger Raptor felt like there’s a lot more to be desired. And then going to the Bronco off Rodeo in Nevada where we took the, the Bronco Raptors or the Raptors as I like to refer to ’em, that was a crazy course too, especially the ultra for side and the jumps. So I felt like Ford has just been hammering the, the capability message with the Raptors, but I felt like a range of raptors was a little lighter.

Sean P. Holman (46m 3s):

And it could have, it could have done more, in my opinion.

Emme Hall (46m 6s):

I don know. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. If I’m, if I call you and I’m like, somebody come recover us.

Sean P. Holman (46m 13s):

Hey, I got a tow strap and, and I got a full tank of gas, so lemme know Emmy. Yeah. So someone gives you a blank check and says, and they say you have to spend ’em this way. First blank check is you have to buy an EV truck. Which one is it?

Emme Hall (46m 30s):

An EV truck? Well, I haven’t driven the new Silverado yet, but everything that I’ve heard about the next Gen Rivian and the improvements that they’ve made is pretty good.

Sean P. Holman (46m 41s):

I’m gonna tell you right now that when You drive that Silverado ev, you’re not gonna change your opinion on the Rivian. Really? I just saw, saw a SoCal Edison, that truck. Yeah. The, yeah, the silver Ido. What are, what are you calling it? The, the Evil Ranch. Evil Ranch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All dressed up in SoCal Edison are are, yeah. Power provider here in Southern California. and I thought, yeah, that’s, that’s that truck that’s, that’s literally just like the green energy dog whistle. Right? I feel like, like that’s the energy company having, we’re in all the way. We’ve got bunch trucks. You’re not gonna see that for Rivian. Like, you’re not gonna see, you know, well they’re going after consumers and not fleet. And it’s way too nice of a vehicle for, you know, doing a hard hat to, to bounce around in. I, I would agree.

Sean P. Holman (47m 22s):

I, I love, I love the Rivian and I didn’t know that our friend Michael Farrah was over there now, and so I’m like, dude, let’s get you guys on the podcast. So working on that, because what does he do?

Emme Hall (47m 32s):

Oh,

Sean P. Holman (47m 32s):

Good. Product communications for Rivian used to be a gm. Damn. And so it’s awesome because it’s like I got somebody on the inside again. ’cause all these Rivian people just moved over to Scout and they

Emme Hall (47m 40s):

Moved. All my people moved.

Sean P. Holman (47m 42s):

Yeah. And so I’m like, well, who the hell do I talk to a Rivian now? So I I I’m, I’m back in. I

Emme Hall (47m 47s):

Know, I know.

Sean P. Holman (47m 47s):

Are they out of Southern California or is he back east? I think he’s Detroit area, but Rivian has offices all over. Yeah. So, but, so I’m excited about that. ’cause I definitely wanna get some seat time in, in the new version of the R one TII think that’s just a, the super crazy fast one. Sure. Quad motor thousand, whatever horsepowers can turn. Yeah. Out of all the electric trucks, that’s the most real truck except for maybe the F-150. But I’ll go back to what I said before. I kind of feel like the mid-size truck is where you start hitting the point of diminishing returns on ev Yeah. Doing trucks though. Yeah. Once you get into full size, it’s not as special because that truck’s always, and

Emme Hall (48m 23s):

You know, and everything starts getting, everything starts getting heavier and then you want more battery ’cause you want more rain and then it gets heavier, then you need more battery and it’s just like, and then you end up with a Hummer.

Sean P. Holman (48m 31s):

I was gonna say, I was gonna ask you if you drove a Hummer. Have you been in, have you had one before?

Emme Hall (48m 35s):

It’s terrible. It’s terrible.

Sean P. Holman (48m 37s):

Yeah, they’re, they’re,

Emme Hall (48m 38s):

I mean it’s fun. Like

Sean P. Holman (48m 39s):

It’s part

Emme Hall (48m 40s):

Of trick. It’s fun, but it’s exactly, it’s, it’s, it’s a showpiece and I mean, it’s, it’s super fun to do the wa to freedom. Like that’s really cool. And like the crab walk is like cool technology and all that stuff, but I don’t know how useful it’s, and I got stuck on a hill because I didn’t know that you had to press the front locker button for five seconds before it will engage. Did

Sean P. Holman (48m 59s):

You get stuck the way you got me? I had to back down, stuck in a certain Nissan patrol in a Moroccan sand dune at one time.

Emme Hall (49m 5s):

No, no, no.

Sean P. Holman (49m 8s):

That

Emme Hall (49m 8s):

Was different than that. I never got, I never got you stuck.

Sean P. Holman (49m 12s):

Okay. I mean, you were behind the Wheel and we had no more forward motion, but in a sand dune with camels walking around us. Am I remembering, is that one, is that one not where she I don think we

Emme Hall (49m 21s):

Were stuck though. Is

Sean P. Holman (49m 22s):

That the one where she hot boxed you? Well that was, there’s a lot of those. Okay. We’ve been on a lot trips together. Okay, so then that was one blank check. So then you got another blank check. And it’s gonna be for, it’s gonna be for internal combustion engine, full-size truck. So threequarter one ton.

Emme Hall (49m 38s):

I mean, I don’t really need big trucks, so I would look at maybe the F-150 regular hybrid. Can I have a regular hybrid because then I could get good mileage while towing.

Sean P. Holman (49m 51s):

I mean, I’ll I’ll give you a pass. I didn’t say hybrid or not, but I was thinking old school like Yeah, but you said anything last time, so,

Emme Hall (49m 58s):

But you said it, so

Sean P. Holman (50m 0s):

Yeah. Okay. It, I’ll let her have hybrid. Alright, that’s a solid, that’s a solid CD F-150. Okay. I think hybrid makes more sense in a full-size truck than a pure EV does. Sure. Like I just, I think it works. Yeah, for sure. For sure. Zero range anxiety. And if I’m getting a F two 50 or, or, or, you know, super duty, heavy duty, whatever I’m getting F two 50 tremor seven three V eight. That’s gonna be the, the, the big boy that I get. Yeah. Okay. Such a great truck. Yeah,

Emme Hall (50m 25s):

Those tremors are great, especially, especially if you need, if you’re doing like chasing down in Baja, you get those and you have, so, and you can have the power pro power on board, which is amazing. And you just have all that right there. That generator right there. You can run a welder and you can get the new BFG HD KO twos or like, there’s like a, a new HD terrain for those things and you’re just like, you’re, you’re

Sean P. Holman (50m 50s):

Set. Those, those things, those are the HD terrains and that is a great tire. And in fact, side note, since you have a, a bison edition, which is the a v overlay on the Colorado, that HD terrain was co-developed with a EV in the 40 inch size for the, to replace what they’ve been putting on the prospector xls. And so those are gonna be going on the factory ones pretty soon. I can’t picture

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (51m 10s):

What those look like.

Sean P. Holman (51m 11s):

It’s, it is just a big alter and it’s it is the same one that was in their booth as sema the forties on the GMC? Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (51m 17s):

Oh,

Sean P. Holman (51m 17s):

Okay. On the, those are pretty aggressive. What was that? The, the, it was grande. It was just a trade bed. The Sierra Grande. Yeah.

Emme Hall (51m 23s):

It’s just cool because that way, I mean like KO twos are great and Cam threes are great at KO three. Like all those are great, but they’re not necessarily made for the weight of a heavy duty truck. And especially not for once you load the bed with all the crap that you need when you’re down there in Baja chasing races. So, you know, that’s that’s pretty cool. Yeah. Huge,

Sean P. Holman (51m 39s):

Huge, huge load rating.

Emme Hall (51m 41s):

Don don’t have any money or people to chase buddy. So like I do everything outta my little mid-sized

Sean P. Holman (51m 46s):

Truck. Lightning will help you Chase. Hey, I’ll co drive. Lightning can chase. Let’s do it. We’ll help you out. You

Emme Hall (51m 51s):

Cannot fit in buddy. A hundred percent. You would not fit in that car.

Sean P. Holman (51m 55s):

Well that, that’s disappointing. Why not?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (51m 57s):

I could fit passenger. Yeah, I could. I’ll get in

Sean P. Holman (52m 1s):

There. Can we go, can we I don? It’s can we try? Let’s go. Let’s, let’s drive to your house and we’ll see who fits in, buddy. Best

Emme Hall (52m 7s):

Listen, I’m gonna be the, I’m I’m gonna race at Glen Helen July 13th and 14th. It’s like some short coursey racing things with Mojave Alfred enthusiasts. So it’s like an hour heat on Saturday and an hour heat on Sunday. I’m gonna go in limited sportsman. So if you guys wanna come out, you can, you can come hang out and try to fit in the car. You won’t, but we’d like to see it happen.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (52m 31s):

But if we can, can we go for a lap?

Emme Hall (52m 33s):

Do you have all the retired safety gear?

Sean P. Holman (52m 35s):

Just burbs. Burbs on the earth. Awesome. Oh,

Emme Hall (52m 38s):

Did you hear that?

Sean P. Holman (52m 39s):

Well played. I smelled it. Wow. That hey, when You go out there, is it gonna be like that picture on your Instagram where you and Buddy are getting run over by a trophy truck with a be God?

Emme Hall (52m 50s):

I hope not.

Sean P. Holman (52m 51s):

Bob Beetle body on it.

Emme Hall (52m 54s):

That was so scary.

Sean P. Holman (52m 55s):

That is one of the scary Tell you here, I’m gonna pull this picture up for, for Lightning because it’s one of those pictures that you, you’re like, you don’t realize how small Buddy is until it’s

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (53m 5s):

A Miata. Until

Sean P. Holman (53m 6s):

You see that. No, look

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (53m 7s):

At that was so scary. God,

Sean P. Holman (53m 9s):

It looks like a micro machine machine And that’s not the

Emme Hall (53m 11s):

Only one. That’s not the only truck that almost hit us. And the thing is, is there was like six media vehicles right there. So that was during King of the Hammers and they do like a desert, a desert race the weekend before. and I was like, yeah, I’ll enter it. And there were all these media vehicles and I’m like, someone just come please and yank me out. I don’t care if I get disqualified. This is a safety issue. Yeah. You know what I mean? And we’re like, I can’t, I what I, if I could get out of the car safely and like dig and Max tracks, I could self recover, but,

Sean P. Holman (53m 41s):

But not that part.

Emme Hall (53m 42s):

6,000, 8,000 pounds trophy truck coming towards me. Somebody needs to yank

Sean P. Holman (53m 45s):

Me ice. by the way, you’re on the inside of a turn on a bl it looks like a blind turn. It’s, yeah. And you’re buried to your hubs on basically on the Miata. It’s bad. And they are literally, we that

Emme Hall (53m 58s):

Turn and we weren’t ready for it. and I was just like, and then I was in that, I was in the, in the ruts and I couldn’t get out of it and it just like, just, they were too deep and just high centered and I was done. I was done

Sean P. Holman (54m 11s):

Crazy. How close that thing, it looks like it’s like just barely a couple feet away from your car. that was Blake Wilkes car. Yes. So if you know it from Yeah, Blake Shred. Wil. Yeah, Freddy. So, okay. So

Emme Hall (54m 22s):

Thank God like he’s a good driver. So he was able to react quick enough to make sure that like, you know, he didn’t kill us, but yeah,

Sean P. Holman (54m 28s):

That would not have been good. She was just out there. She was like a speed bump. No, that would not, that’s not funny. No, but

Emme Hall (54m 34s):

You know what though Buddy is, I’ll

Sean P. Holman (54m 35s):

Lose my friend Buddy

Emme Hall (54m 35s):

Is the first to have raced at King of the Hammers and finished.

Sean P. Holman (54m 40s):

I mean that’s huge. That is huge. Although Buddy recently tried to pretty burn himself down because he had smoke in the cockpit. What was that all about?

Emme Hall (54m 46s):

Oh, that’s because Emmy doesn’t know shit about wiring.

Sean P. Holman (54m 51s):

Well, okay. How, how bad was it? Yeah,

Emme Hall (54m 53s):

Basically there was a, a hot wire that grounded out and it was some of the wires that have like, you know, the little plastic covering, little plastic tubing thing that you could put ’em in. Yeah. But not all of them are in that. And it was, it was melting that plastic thing. So, but all I saw was smoke and I just went, ah, smoke in the cabin and I opened the door and like, you know, like seatbelt off in one, just like one little twist and I opened the door and I basically like fell out. ’cause I didn’t know if the car was on fire or not. And then I realized that it was just the wire, but after I figured out what wire it was, I didn’t wanna take the chance of like, okay, but what else has it burned out? Yeah, like, has it melted the insulation on some other wire that now is going to like burn?

Emme Hall (55m 36s):

So I put him on the trailer and I did not really drive around at Pismo this weekend, which was really sad. But I’ve got a friend coming on Friday, we’re gonna look at it, make sure that I’m not gonna die. Good. And yeah,

Sean P. Holman (55m 51s):

We can’t, we can’t lose you. One more burning question before we let you go. And that’s, do you have Oh

Emme Hall (55m 56s):

Like an STD?

Sean P. Holman (55m 58s):

Well sure. No. What do you have more of in your house right now? Cold cans of Diet Dr. Pepper or cats.

Emme Hall (56m 9s):

I have more empty cans of Diet Dr. Pepper. I’m sitting here next to four empties

Sean P. Holman (56m 15s):

And how many cats?

Emme Hall (56m 16s):

And it was trash day. It was recycling day today and I think there were like eight empty 12 packs that got recycled.

Sean P. Holman (56m 24s):

I have a picture of my desk at home with like 18 cans of Dr. Pepper after like a two week writing binge and I just kept grabbing ’em and they’re just like stacked around me. and I took a picture because I’m like, this is weeks worth of me just powering through writing. and I have like a, I’m encased in a case of Dr. Pepper.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (56m 42s):

The calorie, the caloric difference between hers and yours

Sean P. Holman (56m 45s):

Very different. Ah, that’s true. But so is the Octane. So

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (56m 48s):

Not so much.

7 (56m 50s):

She’s got in her flying high over with cast and the plan in a fancy car. She drives expensive. Her alive a little escapes.

Sean P. Holman (57m 11s):

That’s your new thing song.

Emme Hall (57m 12s):

Did you guys have that written just for me?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 15s):

Maybe. Maybe. Maybe, maybe.

Sean P. Holman (57m 17s):

Maybe. We used a little AI on that for fun. Maybe we did.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 20s):

We’ve

Emme Hall (57m 20s):

Oh my God, that’s amazing. We’ve gone crazy

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 22s):

With the AI lately.

Emme Hall (57m 23s):

That’s amazing you guys. I love it so much.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 25s):

All right, well you have to take us out with the best. Yeah buddy ever.

Emme Hall (57m 30s):

Okay, you ready?

Sean P. Holman (57m 31s):

Do it with a belch

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 31s):

Three. With a belch. No, I

Emme Hall (57m 33s):

Can’t, I already finished, I already finished my soda so that was one. Alright,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 38s):

We’re gonna, we’re gonna mute the mics. Here we go. Here. Three, two. All right. Ready One.

Emme Hall (57m 42s):

Yeah buddy.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 45s):

That was stellar.

Sean P. Holman (57m 46s):

Not as good as the original. I’m, that was pretty strong. I’m an OG fan myself. Yeah, I like

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 50s):

That one though. that was good. Well,

Emme Hall (57m 51s):

You know, that old one was, it was, it was, it just came out of me. It was very authentic.

Sean P. Holman (57m 56s):

I’m leaving that joke alone. And that’s our friend Emmy all and we love you, we mean it. And thanks for hanging out with us. All

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (58m 3s):

Right, love you. Long time. All

Emme Hall (58m 4s):

Right, love you mean it. Bye. All

Sean P. Holman (58m 6s):

Right, see ya.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (58m 7s):

All right. It’s time to check in with the five star hotline. You can call us anytime day or night. 6 5 7 2 0 5 61 0 5

9 (58m 17s):

Oh, come on and be of the show. The five star hotline. 6, 5, 6. It’s the five hotline. Five hotline.

10 (58m 33s):

Hey guys, this is Steven Watson, longtime listener and longtime caller. So I had an idea for a quick deep dive if there is such a thing. I heard Holman got fancy AMS oil racing grease for tire rod ins and such. We actually like using the AMS oil off road grease because we feel like it has been formulated for pins and heavy non-rotating high impact contact surfaces. You know, like pins and heavy equipment, which seems to fit what we do with tie rod ends pretty close. So anyway, that might be something to talk with somebody at AMSOIL about and kind of get some recommendations for some of the places where some of these products go and maybe some oddball uses for things like that.

10 (59m 22s):

I don’t mind keeping around an extra tube grease to, to have the right stuff to, to make tie rod ends last longer and it, it seems like they do, they definitely don’t wear out quickly with, with the M oil pin grease in it. So anyway, there’s your idea. You better run with it now. Bye.

Sean P. Holman (59m 40s):

So in fact, I just talked to Anzo this week. So there’s a bunch of things that we’re working on. So our buddy Brad Lovell is getting ready for a race coming up. We got birds all getting ready for Bonneville. We’ve got one of maybe two Len, maybe Mark, maybe Alex from Anzo coming to do exactly what Steven was talking about and let’s talk about the product lineup in different greases and stuff. Like just looking at AMS oil’s, grease. And we didn’t put Steven up to make this call. He owns off-road design and obviously

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 0m 9s):

He doesn’t need us.

Sean P. Holman (1h 0m 10s):

No, he doesn’t need us, but he’s the avid listener and he deals with the heaviest of heavy duty off-roading crazy, you know, Chevy Square bodies on 40 twos crawling all over stuff. Right? But you go to am Amazon’s page, you got amwell NLGI number two a hundred percent. This is the polymeric truck chassis equipment grease. The one I think he’s talking about is the one in the yellow tube. That’s the NLGI number two, a hundred percent synthetic poly polymeric offroad grease. Then you’ve got NLGI number one. You’ve got synthetic water resistant grease. You got NLGI number one version of the off road grease. You’ve got Anil dominator racing grease, you’ve even got high viscosity li lithium complex grease spray grease and synthetic food grade grease for like machinery and stuff.

Sean P. Holman (1h 0m 57s):

Wow. So I mean there’s, there’s a gazillion things, and I’m sure a lot of these products overlap, but we wanna get somebody from AM Amazon on Yeah. To kinda walk us through because they do have so many options. It’s not always clear what the best one is for your application.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 1m 9s):

So Holman, do you recall a couple years ago when I went with Gail to AM oil’s corporate office in Superior Wisconsin and we shot four videos, we spent three full days there. And when I say full days, I mean from the, the moment they opened the doors to the time they kicked us out. Yep. The reason we teamed up with AMSOIL in the way back, and forgive me if I’ve told this story before, when we were developing the diff covers before we even made our own diff cover at banks, we wanted to get numbers and find out at what point oil was breaking down as far as temperature, like when it would oxidize. We had all these questions about rear differential oil.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 1m 52s):

Nobody would tell us. We called all the big brands you’d see stacked up on the shelf at O’Reilly or Craig. Like we call, I call I I did, I, my job was to go get numbers and nobody would freaking share. and I called AM Oil and They said Oh. yeah, it oxidizes it this temperature. And we found this and they were just sharing information. We go, okay, this is interesting. That led to a longer term relationship. We found ourselves partnering with the company and then going out to Wisconsin to see the facility. We shot these four videos and we walked through the lab and we spent a whole day in the lab. So, and the lab

Sean P. Holman (1h 2m 26s):

Real quick, you know, that we’re trying to get us out there Yes. Where we can do a, a walkthrough Yes. Of their facility in Wisconsin. Are you going with me or is that gonna be a me on my own thing? No, I

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 2m 38s):

Go

Sean P. Holman (1h 2m 38s):

All right. Because we’re, we’re working with, we’re actively trying to figure that out right now.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 2m 42s):

I know what to expect. I’ve been there. No,

Sean P. Holman (1h 2m 43s):

I know, but we haven It’s cool. Haven’t we haven’t brought that to The Truck, Show Podcast listeners. So

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 2m 46s):

I that that’s fine. That’s fine. I don’t wanna name names, but I was at another manufacturer of oils and such in Southern California, and I was in their lab, this is seven, eight years ago. and I thought, oh, that’s what a lab looks like. And then I go to AM Oil’s lab way different way, way different. I mean, this one was like the one in southern California here, and it’s a brand that you guys know was kind of like, not, not not a sham,

Sean P. Holman (1h 3m 12s):

But it didn’t feel like state of the art. It,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 3m 13s):

It felt like it was built for people to walk through and be I oppressed. Yeah, but didn’t some guys, two dudes in lab coats and that was like it. Yeah. And a couple of machines that looked like coffee makers. Then we go over to Amsel and like, okay, this is a real laboratory with like, I, I want to go more than a dozen, like dudes that actually have degrees, chemical degrees. I,

Sean P. Holman (1h 3m 33s):

I’ve, I’ve literally been using AMS oil personally for a long time through Four Wheeler magazine, especially the, the Gear Lube, which I, I freaking love that stuff. It’s awesome. And then when I was running Diesel Power magazine, they were a sponsor and, and got to use their stuff and see competitors using their stuff on crazy diesel racing builds and got to know the people over there. And it’s been, you know, that’s, I’m glad that relationship continued on through banks and into the podcast, but we really do are, you know, we really are customers of theirs already. We’re users of their

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 4m 3s):

Product. I mean, we didn’t know what to expect when we went out there. We were like, yeah, or let’s do business with them and then we saw it. And to impress Gail is really tough. And they did that like in spades. It was super cool. So anyway, thank you Steven for that suggestion. I’m sure we’re gonna hit

Sean P. Holman (1h 4m 17s):

Yeah, we’re working on it. Am well yeah,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 4m 18s):

Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (1h 4m 18s):

Yeah. Five star,

11 (1h 4m 20s):

Five star, five star

Sean P. Holman (1h 4m 23s):

Hotline.

12 (1h 4m 24s):

Lightning Holman. What’s up guys? It’s Rich. Had an interesting conversation with ALA this morning on the way to school, parked in the parking lot at her school with a brand new Nissan Pro four x.

Sean P. Holman (1h 4m 36s):

Okay. I swear this is the actual calls that, I mean, obviously our listeners understood the homework assignment, but we did not ask anybody to regurgitate all of our sponsors. But we’re glad that you guys feel the relevance of having our partners on the show because again, these are companies that we are customers of that we believe in. So it’s great that you guys are using that in your, some of

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 4m 56s):

Phone of you don’t believe that we didn’t set these up hilarious. There’s nothing we can do about it. We, we didn’t, but we’re, this is the call we gotta, we’re gonna play.

12 (1h 5m 4s):

And she is the, that gray color. don don’t, don don’t know the color name of it, but it’s like a bold gray, it looks like a flat gray kind of. She goes, Hey Papa, you don’t have any small trucks. You should, we should get one of those. I said, oh, you like that one? She goes, well, yeah, if, if you, if you have any issues with picking it, just talk to Sean. So apparently I’m supposed to talk to Sean about our interest or her interest rather in a Nissan pro Forex a little frontier. So guess what we’re doing on Saturday? We’re going to Nissan of Gilroy and we are gonna go Test Drive a Frontier Pro Fourex.

Sean P. Holman (1h 5m 45s):

Wow. and I like it,

12 (1h 5m 47s):

No guarantees or any of that sort, but should be fun. Peace out. Keep the five stars, five star and keep monitoring those parameters. Lightning, I’m waiting to hear from you what help you need with your, with your garage. Talk to you later. Bye.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 6m 4s):

Yep. We got that handled. Yep. He’s just trying to work out the schedule. He is gonna come over there with a coring drill. We’ll more on that subject later. Thank you Rich. Appreciate that. You’re the man.

12 (1h 6m 15s):

Hey truck. So truck show.

Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 18s):

That’s the whole message. But he calls back, he calls back, listen, you can’t laugh at him. That’s how our you edit this show. You know how much we do that? Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 6m 27s):

You can’t

Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 28s):

Laugh at her listening for doing it.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 6m 29s):

I’m not laughing. I just said it was funny that it was just that. Anyway, 6 5 7 2 0 5 61 0 5. It is

Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 35s):

The five star, five star, five star hotline.

12 (1h 6m 41s):

Hello Truck show podcast. I was recently at a shop dropping off my 19 Nissan Frontier work truck for some.

Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 50s):

I swear we did not put anybody after that, but thanks guys. We we’re glad you get the homework assignment. But I I feel dirty a little bit, right?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 6m 58s):

I know. I mean it’s, I can’t, these are the calls that came in. I’m playing them in order.

Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 2s):

That’s funny. This

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 7m 3s):

Is a dude don don’t even know who the dude is. No one’s gonna believe this. No,

Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 5s):

But keep playing it. Anyways. Do we keep, keep, keep going.

12 (1h 7m 8s):

Some a CU service and there was a, there was a TRX sitting in the parking lot and so I asked the, the guy at the counter, you know, who’s who had the TRX and he is like, oh, it’s just a customer truck that came in with a no start. But then he goes, but it’s a funny story. He says, I go to run the, run the VIN to check The truck in and the VIN doesn’t come up. And he said that he reached out to Ram and they were like, that VIN does not exist for a T Rx. And he calls, calls the DMV and they say it doesn’t exist as well. So he’s

Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 44s):

So what do you think?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 7m 45s):

Stolen?

Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 46s):

Stolen? Yeah. It’s gotta be right. Like they, they, they found a, a ram shell and they transferred all the T RX parts over to build a, some sort of custom TRX.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 7m 56s):

Interesting. Well let’s keep playing.

12 (1h 7m 57s):

Trying to, trying to figure out why, why it doesn’t exist. And with all of ’em getting stolen, it made me think it was a, another stolen one that someone had maybe changed the, changed the bin plate or something like that. But anyway, I just felt it was interesting with all the talk of stolen trx.

Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 16s):

Interesting.

12 (1h 8m 16s):

This one was happening right here. Love the show. Keep it up. Bye.

Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 20s):

Alright, thank you. Mystery caller. So this’s probably, is it a VIN swap? Because the vin’s in a bunch of places and

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 26s):

It edge to me it feels like a VIN swap. Yeah, I maybe

Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 28s):

You just go under the frame or in the door jam. Or is it, you probably

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 31s):

Looked at the one in the windshield Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 33s):

And didn’t check it anywhere else. Yeah,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 34s):

Because it just, that’s just riveted.

Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 36s):

Well, the TR the, well the T rx frame is completely different than a regular ram too. It’s not just like you can just transfer everything. don don’t know. That’s that’s sketch as hell

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 43s):

Though. I know, but hey, and by the way, shout out to Mike Rice f you Mike. Doubt it. I love Mike, but he keeps sending me photos of TXs with broken windows. He’s like another theft recovery. I’m like, Mike, I don’t need to see these again. This is bad.

Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 58s):

Just,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 58s):

It’s like, it’s like an accident victim. I can’t unsee it.

Sean P. Holman (1h 9m 1s):

You should be like one of those angels, like investor angel. You should take those ballards and put ’em in the, just gift them to the back. The pickup truck bed of one of those that’s broken into

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 9m 11s):

I’m made of money now. Yeah. What are we talking about? Just

Sean P. Holman (1h 9m 13s):

Say the Lightning angel cave and wants you to get your glass fixed and your truck signed. I’m

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 9m 17s):

Telling you, this is a freaking business. I’m not saying any more about it because I’m gonna make a mint selling these things. Installing ’em all over Southern California. 6 5 7 2 0 5 61 0 5. Leave us a message anytime. Any day

3 (1h 9m 29s):

You email. Yeah, I email Do it. We email. That’s right. Every email type it up. You email proofread. I email send it. We email, click it every email. All

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 9m 48s):

Right. Holman’s parsing out the mail. We actually print these things off. If you’re new to the show, we don’t just read ’em off the screen. We print them. don don’t know why we print

Sean P. Holman (1h 9m 58s):

Them. We waste a lot of paper because you, you can’t read.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 1s):

That’s not, it’s not Why, why

Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 3s):

Why is

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 4s):

It? I think because it’s

Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 6s):

Easier to divvy ’em up.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 8s):

Fun. Yeah. It’s like he it’s like Trait. It’s like a, a poker cards. There’s like a

Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 13s):

Are we playing Uno or something?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 14s):

Yeah, yeah. It’s like, you me, you, me. It’s the way he does

Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 17s):

It. Okay. So I need to, I need to dive down to the bottom of this so you know, our friend,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 22s):

Wait a minute. Is this a

3 (1h 10m 25s):

Prepare to dive, prepare to dive. Hi Captain. Captain.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 30s):

Is it, is it a deep dive or no? It,

Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 32s):

I think it could be.

3 (1h 10m 34s):

There’s no such thing as too deep. Well it’s not yet. Oh. Oh,

Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 42s):

The sub, the sub is still at the dock. Oh. So remember we were talking about

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 46s):

Pike? Is this a nuclear sub? Dude,

Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 47s):

Were you shut up for a second so I can do a podcast. Jesus. So remember when we were talking about Pike’s Peak and we both said, oh, the thing is electric vehicles is cheating because They don’t suffer the same issues that internal combustion engine faces going to the top with, you know, altitude density.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 5s):

That’s what I said. Right? and I was the only thing they do suffer from is cooling because there’s not enough Wrong. No wrong. What do you mean? No, of course they suffer from cooling. There’s, that’s the air dead. So much

Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 16s):

Lower there. You said that’s the only thing they suffer from.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 19s):

I don’t remember the conversation. What I’m saying is that No, right, you were, I would just say,

Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 22s):

Or you here two

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 23s):

Seconds ago. No, no, I was saying that it’s unfair that they’re, they’re gonna dominate forever.

Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 27s):

None of this matters. Okay.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 28s):

That’s not the point. What’s the story?

Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 28s):

It’s not the point of the conversation. Sure. What

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 30s):

Is you

Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 31s):

Said just now they suffer from, the only thing they suffer from is cooling. That’s not the only thing they suffer from is what I’m trying to explain to you. Tell

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 40s):

Me more. Alright,

Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 41s):

So our, our longtime listener and friend over at Dana, Seth Metzker, who’s the senior vice president of electrification at Dana. So like, pretty important sends me this note. Hey, I hope you’re doing well. Listen to the most recent podcast where you talked about Pikes Peak and EVs ruining the world. Just kidding. During the podcast you mentioned that EVs don’t have issues at altitude. So it isn’t fair for ice vehicles. That isn’t exactly true at altitude. There’s an issue. I swear this is real. You’re not gonna believe me. Okay. At altitude, there’s an issue with cosmic rays impacting the semiconductor installation resistance. Who’s talking about Ws many inverters de-rate performance at altitude to prevent failure.

Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 21s):

We design ours to not have an issue above 2000 meters, but many don’t. And then he sends me a link to it and I’m like, it must be outta your mind. I’m like, what? Tell me more. And so he sends me this link and he says, read about halfway down for a competitor’s inverter. Look at the altitude. And so he’s like, I’m not a mechanical engineer, but I’m trying to figure out some more info. and I’m like, dude, we need you guys on the podcast. ’cause who knew I had,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 12m 47s):

He’s saying I had no idea. Co cosmic rays. Yes.

Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 51s):

That

13 (1h 12m 51s):

Ain’t true. That’s not true. So get your facts

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 12m 57s):

Straight, Seth.

Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 58s):

No,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 12m 59s):

Seth.

Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 60s):

Seth is a reliable and credible

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 2s):

No, I know he is

Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 4s):

Addition to The Truck Show Podcast or resource I should

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 5s):

Say. I’m just fun with them. But seriously, cosmic Ray, I I had no idea You’re saying that was, there’s no ionosphere or whatever the sphere is that that blocks it out. Is not there don

Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 13s):

Don’t know what I’m saying. I’m saying that it’s not just cooling. There’s other things. It just happens to be cosmic rays and I thought we should tell people that. I we’ll have Dana on to talk more about it because how that’s fascinating to me. What do you do? They’re trying to electrify airplanes. What happens when an airplane is that 35,000 feet, 40,000 feet flying through the air with its electric motor. Hold on a second. And its inverter’s like,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 35s):

Hey Siri, call Matt Gamble Mobile

14 (1h 13m 37s):

Calling Matt Gamble mobile.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 40s):

See, I don’t mind calling Matt late at night. So we’ll just see what he has to say. He does. Maybe, maybe not. He worked at Rocketdyne.

Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 48s):

I get it.

15 (1h 13m 50s):

Good evening. And thank you for calling the cell phone of Matt Gamble. Matt

Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 53s):

Gamble speaking.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 54s):

He does that all the time by the way. Holman, you’re on the air. Mr. Matt Gamble. I think legally we have to say that we have a a, a question. Are

15 (1h 14m 0s):

You recording me right now?

Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 1s):

Yes. You’re being recorded in the state of California.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 3s):

You’re live. Yes. And

15 (1h 14m 5s):

There we go.

Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 5s):

Do we have your permission?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 7s):

Stop it.

Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 8s):

Are you telling me to stop it after what you just pulled like one call ago?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 11s):

He knows we’re okay. He knows we’re good. Okay,

Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 13s):

Here’s the thing. We were talking about ice engines versus EV engines in the context of Pike’s Peak and Racing. And Lightning said, I said, you know, there’s EVs don’t suffer from anything. Lightning goes Yes they do. They suffer from cooling at altitude, blah, blah blah. So typical conversation of two knuckleheads sitting in a backyard shed, but then my friend, who is the senior vice president of electrification at Dana text me and says that’s not exactly true that inverters suffer degradation at altitude due to cosmic rays. And he would have more information for us. Well,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 46s):

I’m calling you because you used to work at Rocketdyne and if anyone knew about cosmic rays, who would be a guy who flew rockets?

15 (1h 14m 54s):

Don’t, don’t flip a bit. Also don’t forget you’re gonna suffer from aero effects. Right. Which is, which is both ICE and EVs

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 4s):

Aerodynamics. Yes. But, but what say you about cosmic rays affecting inverters? Do you, here

Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 11s):

Here’s the specific wording he says. He says, well

15 (1h 15m 14s):

I’m not, so first off, I’m not an electrical engineer. Second, we’re talking 14,000 feet. Right. It’s about the top of Pikes Peak. Sure. Correct.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 23s):

He

Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 24s):

Says that altitude, there’s an issue with cosmic rays impacting the semiconductor installation resistance. Many inverters de-rate performance at altitude to prevent failure. We design ours not to have an issue above 2000 meters, but many don’t. I just thought that was fricking interesting.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 37s):

Does that sound legit to you Mr. Campbell?

15 (1h 15m 39s):

That that is interesting. Again, I’m not an ee and I’ve, I’ve never personally looked into that.

Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 47s):

What good are you to, to us then? I mean, other than the headache rack for Lightning C Rx,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 51s):

He’s funny

15 (1h 15m 52s):

That, that he hasn’t built. Yeah,

Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 54s):

Right.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 54s):

It’s, it turns out Mr. Matt Gamble is a good engineer and made something that’s expensive to build. Oh

Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 59s):

Really? Go figure. Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 1s):

Yeah.

15 (1h 16m 2s):

Well that’ll happen.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 4s):

It will it

15 (1h 16m 4s):

The price, the price was right for the design though.

Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 8s):

There

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 9s):

It is. Alright, well you’re of no use to us like normal man, but we love you. Alright,

15 (1h 16m 12s):

Well that sounds good.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 13s):

Okay.

Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 14s):

All right, Lighting, we’ll see you at 6:00 AM for carpool.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 16s):

No, no, no. Perfect. He’s not doing that anymore. He did, did, we should recap and tell you what we did. Well he called me and said, Hey

Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 23s):

Don, don’t wanna ride with you anymore.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 25s):

No, no. He said, Hey, can you, because you chew,

Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 26s):

You chew your breakfast burritos too loud while we’re driving. He got

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 29s):

Into a little fender bender and messed up the flying couch. Oh right. Which is his Buick wagon

15 (1h 16m 33s):

Literally bent the fender, bent

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 35s):

The fender. Like literally. But it’s still drivable. And he, and he says, Hey, can you come out to a junkyard and help me tear apart? What the hell? What did we cut apart?

15 (1h 16m 43s):

Skylar?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 43s):

Skylar. Oh, that’s right. We chopped up a Skylar. So some of the body panels are the same. And we were out in the, the middle of Riverside on a hot day and it was right next to a grease factory and it smelled so good. It was just delightful. It was awful. So what,

Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 58s):

What does that have to do with

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 60s):

Anything? I’m just telling you, we were out there cutting apart a car to save mats. W was this where we graphed these old car parts onto mats.

Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 7s):

I feel like this is a, a weird flex times two. One Lightning has tools and was in the junkyard. And two Lightning helps his friend a

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 14s):

Little bit. Little bit.

15 (1h 17m 16s):

And three, he, he, he survived the, the stink pit of the grease factory. Awesome.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 21s):

It was, it was seriously awful. And the silliest silt ever, we were just coated in dirt and, and, and grossness. You guys are

Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 28s):

A good time.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 29s):

Yeah, it was fun though. I a I

15 (1h 17m 30s):

Had a, I I will say though the points for Southern California, a lot of people complain about California but wrecked the car on Monday was pulling apart a 1966 Buick on Saturday in a junkyard. So

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 44s):

We got the goods and we

Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 46s):

Also Have,

15 (1h 17m 47s):

We got the good stuff in la

Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 48s):

We have every kind of food imaginable in LA too. And it’s all good. What

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 51s):

Does that have to do with c

15 (1h 17m 52s):

That is true. And then, and then when they’re done cooking and I Greece, we know where that goes.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 56s):

Thank you. Goodnight tip your waitress. There we go. All right Matt, you’re the best. Thank you. Thanks Matt.

15 (1h 18m 2s):

All right guys. See ya all.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 18m 3s):

Bye. Mopar Sans mojo from Ray with Tim Kki and Jim Morrison both leaving and what seems like non-American non enthusiast heads coming to replace them. It feels like VARs is quickly draining the American soul out of the former Chrysler Corporation brands. That sad but I hope I’m wrong. Please, please tell me I’m wrong. I dunno if he said it like that, but that’s what Ray wrote.

Sean P. Holman (1h 18m 29s):

TBD. But I’m not gonna say you’re wrong at this point. You don’t

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 18m 31s):

Know exactly. You don’t have any inside knowledge.

Sean P. Holman (1h 18m 33s):

Nope. Definitely a little bit worried seeing all the people that are, that have left or are leaving and the, the, you know, carnal knowledge and corporate knowledge and things that matter to the, the Jeep brand and people. I just, all that stuff I I I do worry. I got this email from Jason Gainor says theft deterrent and diesel inappropriateness. Good day gents. Couple of things first Lightning on this week’s episode, I heard your motion sense deterrent. I have the same one, actually two of them.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 18m 59s):

Yeah. 40 Buck Club

Sean P. Holman (1h 19m 0s):

Says combined with your bollards, I hope this highly effective device works well for you. I can verify that it keeps deer and other pesky animals outta my landscaping Azalea garden, et cetera. However, I would not recommend this device solely to deter cartel or other organized crime members. I think your bollards will be more effective. Best of luck. Agreed. On the topic of diesel inappropriateness, I have two different diesels. A 2019 L five P and a 2022 Jeep EcoDiesel Rubicon. The L five P is used for towing 6,500 plus or minus a poundage of a wake boat.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 19m 30s):

That’s a Derm X by the way, tractor

Sean P. Holman (1h 19m 32s):

Or enclosed trailer hauling side by sides. Not anything over 10 K, but I have not had any major issues so far at 105,000 miles. I have had to replace two sensors EGT related after towing around 7,000 pounds of tractor for two days. It was in regen a lot that day. Yes, a gaster would work but would not be a safe hauling 250 miles with a boat and kids. Why does the EcoDiesel not seem to have the same problem with regen and DPF as the larger block engines? Same with the three liter durmax question mark. The Jeep does regen but it’s not nearly as violent or noticeable as the L five P. In fact, I can barely notice it. The only reason I know is that the deaf needs refilling occasionally. Thirdly, I ordered the Rudolph diesel book and it is a great read.

Sean P. Holman (1h 20m 12s):

And lastly, as a proud North Carolinian where Pepsi originates and must agree that Coca-Cola is far superior. I have visited the original location where Pepsi-Cola oriented in Newburn North Carolina. Even there it’s not great tolerable but not not great Next time I won’t wait as long to email, not as frequent as Trevor. And I’ll keep it shorter. Keep up the great work. My favorite podcast of the week every week. Appreciate your dedication to the craft Jason Gainor.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 20m 36s):

So he’s asking why the durmax regions are different? Yeah, yeah. The regents, well

Sean P. Holman (1h 20m 41s):

I’ll tell you this, the EcoDiesel, if you don’t work, it will plug up A DPF and will force you to regen. Yeah. It’ll say on the dash that the DPF or that you need to drive

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 20m 53s):

Oh. yeah. Remember what they both do

Sean P. Holman (1h 20m 55s):

That. No, I understand that, but I’m just saying it’s not like the light duty diesel is not the same as the bigger one. It will get to the same point where it’ll say, okay, you have to go for a drive so this thing can clear out. Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 6s):

The the bummer with the EcoDiesel is to my knowledge, there’s no way to command a stationary region. You can’t pull over at a rest stop or you know, in an open lot or something. And command a stationary region where you, the elevate, the RPMs are elevated and you get it really hot. It shooting

Sean P. Holman (1h 21m 20s):

Flames out the

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 21s):

Back. Literally. Yeah. So on the, on the duramax on the 17 to 23, you can, you can literally pull over and it’s, but

Sean P. Holman (1h 21m 28s):

Not factory. You have to do it with ID dash,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 30s):

Right? Yeah. On Eyed Dash. Correct. Okay. Yeah. So we reverse engineered and you can, it’s funny ’cause it runs you through a bunch of prompts. You’ve never done it, but it’s just like, is the hood up? Yes. Is your deaf level half or above? Yes. And you go a bunch of yes no. And then there’s one, it says, one of the prompts says hit the down arrow and people keep pressing. Yes, yes, yes, yes. And they miss the down ’cause it’s a trick. Right? We wanna make sure you’re paying attention. Of course I couldn’t do it. I’m like, did you read all the prompts? You only rid all the pros.

Sean P. Holman (1h 21m 54s):

Fill out those federal forms for that one questions.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 56s):

It’s one. Yeah, we did that. We’re like on one of its pushed man.

Sean P. Holman (1h 21m 59s):

Never pushed a

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 59s):

Felon. Exactly. But dude, I tell guys all the time about the regens, the stationary re I go, I want you to command one when You can. You have to be over 90% full on the DPF. That’s so there’s 90% blockage. Yeah, blockage. Exactly. So it’s, it’s pretty plugged up. I said it’s gonna be the loudest thing you’ve ever heard your

Sean P. Holman (1h 22m 19s):

Truck do. And you’re gonna worry

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 22m 20s):

And you’re gonna freak out. You’re gonna want to stop it. You’re gonna think that your, your truck is going to explode. Don’t

Sean P. Holman (1h 22m 25s):

Do it. Don’t around like small children or high grass

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 22m 27s):

Anything. ’cause it is, it is 1100 degrees at the tip of the tailpipe. It’s crazy hot. And it goes up to 2,500 RPM and stays there for 20 minutes. That big fan, that 36 inch fan or whatever, 32 inch fan is at max speed to keep the engine cool. And the engine and the hood has to be up. So all these factors together, it’s mindbogglingly loud but it clears it all out. Why is the duramax regen more often, more unburnt fuel far larger turbo. So you need more fuel to spool it up. There’s a lot of factors. I would be lying if I told you that I could give you all those factors and have it make sense ’cause I’m not an engineer but I will say that that’s kind of a known thing.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 12s):

The bigger the engine, the higher the displacement, the bigger the turbo. It just takes more fuel to spool it up and that fuel oftentimes goes unburnt and ends up in the DPF. Alright. Does that make sense? Sure.

Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 24s):

Okay. Alright. Moving on to this email called update and advice. And this is from one of my absolute favorite longtime listeners Steven Hucks. He may have taken me for a tour of a submarine in dry dock one time.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 37s):

Is that the one with The Truck Show Podcast stickers hidden somewhere.

Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 41s):

I’m not gonna confirm or deny. I’m just gonna say the

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 44s):

Plaus plausible deniability.

Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 46s):

I’m just gonna say a care package went to them and they did with it what they police. Okay. Alright. He says gents, due to some unfortunate circumstances, I’ve had a bit of a change in my vehicle lineup. My wife was hit in her 2019 Nissan Armada a couple weeks ago on the way home. Thankfully she was fine minus some whiplash, but I can’t say the same for the Optima that hit her. I’m so grateful that the Armada took such good care of her. This is her second major accident in 20 years and both times it was in a Nissan and she walked away unscathed from both of them. After rushing to the accident and seeing the damage, the wife and I decided we needed something bigger and safer than the 2016 Wrangler Rubicon. So I got her a one owner, local single dealer service 2021 Armada and Hermosa Blue and got myself a 2021 Titan and Baja Storm.

Sean P. Holman (1h 24m 29s):

Nice. We love them both and couldn’t be happier with the choice. This is our sixth Nissan and my second Titan. After this incident, I think we’re gonna be Nissan lifers only downsides, having trouble finding a rack to transport my kayaks that works with the back flip MX four. That’s a to cover. They’re both 12 feet and about a hundred pounds each. We found several options that still allow full use of the cover for other manufacturers with the Titan. Seems left out, I figured between you two your Nissan connection, you could hook me up with some advice to be able to use the cover and still keep this 28 year naval officer on the water with kids. Looking forward to the advice and keep mounting those parameters. And that’s our, our friend Steven

16 (1h 25m 6s):

Monitor key engine parameters.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 25m 10s):

So don

Sean P. Holman (1h 25m 11s):

Don’t know, if I remember correctly, the, the back flip MX four is kind of flush with the top of the bed rails. But like the steak pockets and the top of the bed rail itself are open and I know that there’s a few racks out there that are universal that sit on that top of the bed. So something is this where

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 25m 28s):

We harass our friends over at EGR to make one.

Sean P. Holman (1h 25m 30s):

We could harass them to make something or we could maybe recommend, like Tule has a couple different options of a collapsible rack. It’s made out of aluminum but it has feet that sit on top of the bed rail. I don’t know if that

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 25m 45s):

Like a modular style.

Sean P. Holman (1h 25m 46s):

Yeah. and I don’t know if that requires you to use the util track rails to tie into, but on the back flip it seems like you could flip open the Tono and then have access to that so you wouldn’t be able to have the Tono closed. But you could still use a rack like that without taking the Tono off. I think I haven’t looked in a while. Obviously the, the Titans, they’re just not as big as other vehicles in terms of sales volume. So a lot of manufacturers have stuff that would interface but on that particular truck might not. So I would go to, there’s a really good site that I like called etrailer dot com.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 26m 16s):

I love etrailer dot com. Super good prices actually. And yeah, bought eTrack through them and Dearings and all kinds of weird stuff.

Sean P. Holman (1h 26m 24s):

Yeah. So I, I would check them out and just see if you can find something universal. The other option might be one of those aluminum or steel over landing racks that also mounts to the bed. So maybe don’t think about it from the standpoint of I need like a tulley or or action sports kind of rack. Maybe go to the Overland side and see if there’s something that would bolt in user steak pockets and do it that way.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 26m 47s):

Any idea if Lightener makes one,

Sean P. Holman (1h 26m 49s):

You can head to lightener designs dot com. They do have options for the Nissan but I don’t know if it works with that rack. But they do have a great rack system, their a CS that is compatible with some Tono covers ’cause they have photos of ’em on their website. So maybe check them out. But either way you should be able to come up with some kind of solution and hopefully we were at least a little bit helpful.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 27m 13s):

We need that as a T-shirt. A little helpful. Not

Sean P. Holman (1h 27m 16s):

A lot. Nope. Just a little

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 27m 17s):

Bit. Shock upgrades from Leander Peters. Hello gents, I’ve got a question for you related to suspension. I drive a 2001 Grand Cherokee wj. It’s got a three inch suspension system with long arms front and rear from Iron Rock off road interview suggestion. It’s riding on 33 inch Falcon Wild Peak MT tires and Bill Stein 5,100 shocks. The suspension flexes quite well and the 51 hundreds give a really nice smooth ride. I’m very happy with the off-road capability but would like to carry a little more speed through the whoops and rough stuff when needed. Right now it rides a little low so I feel like I need to increase my up travel possibly with Taller Springs.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 27m 57s):

What I’m wondering is what shocks do you suggest without spending a crazy amount of money style travel or if I’m buying springs and shocks anyway, is there a budget friendly coil over that would be better? I’m willing and able to make custom mounts as needed. Also, I have a set of super duty axles that have been thinking about installing to add strength for larger tires. But I’m not sure if the extra unsprung weight would be a major hindrance for higher speed travel. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. And that’s dude, he’s in Saskatchewan. What’s up in Saskatchewan? You

Sean P. Holman (1h 28m 29s):

Just wanted to say Saskatchewan? I’m gonna say don’t when

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 28m 32s):

You, by the way, he writes and remember everything matters and taste the biscuit. So maybe a little taste the biscuit.

Sean P. Holman (1h 28m 36s):

All right, I’m gonna cut that off right here. I would say no to the super duty axles. There’s so, I mean you have to go through and probably figure out what the toner rings are. So your gauges work, it’s a ton of unsprung weight. You’re now swapping over to eight Legg wheels. They’re way wider than the vehicle. Again, super heavy, not what you want for going fast. I would, you know, you’ve probably got Dana 40 fours under that thing or maybe a 35 front 44 rear. Maybe get a Rubicon 44 front or something like that. I would stick with that class of of Axle. So that’s number one. Number two, yeah go do Bill Stein and check ’em out. You can get something if you want to keep the same springs and just go to a shock. Hard to beat a 51 60 reservoir, you know, 2.1 inch piston.

Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 19s):

You can get ’em in different lengths. There’s custom shocks offered as well. You can

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 29m 24s):

Check other 51 60 over 5,100 that he has. Now

Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 27s):

5,100 is not a reservoir shock Oh.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 29m 29s):

Yeah.

Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 29s):

Okay. So, so I would, I would think about 51 60, get ’em for the length you need or go into a coil over and they have for the quality, the price of the Bilstein Coilers I really like. So aftermarket, that’s always gonna be my choice. Okay.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 29m 43s):

Alright.

Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 44s):

And I wanted to say thank you from our longtime listener and friend Sam Houston who sent me a little care package. Is

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 29m 52s):

That an actual handwritten letter?

Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 55s):

Handwritten letter with his,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 29m 57s):

Oh he’s got a monogram on the top. Look at that.

Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 60s):

Wow. So his letterhead and so he used to be at Fab Fours before they got taken over and stuff and so he’s off doing other things now. But he says Sean, I continue to really enjoy the podcast even though I’m no longer in the industry. And he says the item’s enclosed. My neighbor a few doors down is a senior executive with F-N-U-S-A, which is a awesome gun manufacturer. He says at a party a few weeks ago that I had, I grabbed these, I know zilch about cigars but know from the podcast that you do also know you’re a firearms guy. So I thought, hey, these are appropriate for you. I hope they’re half decent. And keep the second to a minimum unless you are smoking these. And that’s our friend Sam Houston.

Sean P. Holman (1h 30m 41s):

So it’s two, those

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 30m 42s):

Look hermetically sealed.

Sean P. Holman (1h 30m 43s):

They are hermetically sealed and it is FN bands on it. So probably some special hand rolled.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 30m 50s):

What does that mean fm? I don don’t.

Sean P. Holman (1h 30m 52s):

That’s the name of the company. Oh F

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 30m 53s):

Fm

Sean P. Holman (1h 30m 54s):

Fn. So anyway, Sam, thanks for the cigars. I am going to to enjoy these. don don’t know what they are but sometimes that’s half the fun with cigars. They look like a Connecticut wrapper and it looks like something probably in the package. ’cause I don’t wanna open ’em up in here with AC on. What if

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 10s):

He set you weed?

Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 10s):

Nope. It looks like, you know, a darker filler and binder. So I’m gonna guess that these are probably pretty good. But I just wanna say thanks Sam. Really appreciate

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 19s):

It. Yes. That’s a nice move.

Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 20s):

It’s nice when our listeners think of us, we’ve had so many different things over the years of you guys saying, Hey, you know you, you provide us with this halfway decent on occasion podcast and I wanna send you something. Sam,

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 32s):

Thank you for thinking of Lightning as well. Appreciate that. Oh wait,

Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 35s):

Well our two cigars. Do you wanna chuck one down and turn green?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 38s):

I

Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 39s):

Will. Okay, I’ll save the other one for you. I le okay, done

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 42s):

Legit. I’ll do

Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 43s):

It. Okay.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 43s):

We’ve smoked cigars before. Can we at your, at your gun club, can

Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 46s):

We do a time lapse?

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 47s):

Why

Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 48s):

Just watch your face change over time now that’s true. Lightning has gone with me to the cigar lounge. I’ve done that. Choked down a few cigars in the past.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 55s):

So Seth Anderson says H boobly and fruit pants. Love that Lightning’s delivery on the email where he was. that was very, I

Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 2s):

Like that Jab Boobly is still out there. I don’t remember what episode that started at but it’s still funny to this day.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 32m 10s):

Jab Boobly and fruit pants. ’cause I called you fruit pants and don don’t, but don don’t know where the jab came

Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 16s):

From. I, I vaguely remember saying something because it’s J and I don’t know. I put together Jab Boobly and it

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 32m 24s):

Stuck. You did? No, I thought a listener Did you? You named me Jabi.

Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 26s):

No, I think I was the one who named me Jabi don

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 32m 28s):

Don’t know about

Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 29s):

Do any of our listeners structural podcast at think gmail dot com. I if you remember or know of the episode where Jab Boobly was first uttered in our 370 something episodes, please, please advise.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 32m 41s):

I am fairly certain that was a listener creation. Listener. All right. Yes. Anyway, lightning’s delivery on the email where he was buried was unexpectedly hilarious. It got me laughing out loud. Okay. Usually Lightning’s attempt at humor are entertaining, but not LOL worthy. Nice job, Lightning. That’s okay. Didn’t, that

Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 58s):

Was a compliment. Sure. I’ll barely. But

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 33m 1s):

By the way, I heard that you liked it when people tell you how long they’ve been listening. So I wanted to tell you that I’ve been listening since almost the start. I think I only had like two months of backlog to work through when I started. I also have the elusive T-shirt y’all used to send out to Emailers. It’s getting worn out now, so I only wear it when I’m going out in public so people can see it. I also regularly wear the hat that y’all sent me as well as we Wow. We

Sean P. Holman (1h 33m 26s):

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 33m 27s):

Sean P. Holman (1h 33m 29s):

That’s right. I remember that. Now he says

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 33m 30s):

A double, by the way, by the way, I have, I still haven’t put the trim coat on The truck yet because it’s rarely washed in a leisurely fashion. And the headlights that were in a rough shape were on the vehicle that ended up getting totaled before the winter was over. But I’m sure I’ll still be able to use it on my 2001 Tacoma sometime soon. Also, those AI songs, well they sound okay. A little digital but not a good fit for the podcast. Love the show, Seth from Chicago and he says hashtag OG Emmy. Yeah, buddy And Winnebago Man. Accoutrements. Yeah,

Sean P. Holman (1h 34m 6s):

Buddy. The

The truck show. The truck show. The truck show. Whoa Whoa.

Sean P. Holman (1h 34m 35s):

And you can hit us up on social. Give us a follow and check out what we’re up to in our lives. Away from The, Truck, Show, Podcast. Find that at At lbc Lighting. At Sean. P Holman. Or at Truck Show Podcast.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 34m 47s):

By the way, shout out to Dave doing, doing some amazing work there on the the at Truck Show podcast, Instagram and Facebook. And he’s me malicious a little bit, but he’s got a lot of conversation going on over there. And it’s funny ’cause every once in a while we’ll get tagged in. We’re like, didn’t know that there was this big conversation happening on our

Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 4s):

Socials. Yeah. Know it’s kind of funny because it’s, I’ll be just doing my thing like pooping and then all of a sudden I get a notification. I’m like, let me jump in there. I was actually thinking recently of starting up a truck show podcast, Facebook group where everybody could interact, give us ideas, tell us what they like, don’t like, and we can have our listeners kind of hang out inside the smart. Now that’s because we haven’t done that and I thought that would be a really good idea.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 35m 26s):

Well, do you think that we should do a live, because you know, like our friend Ralph Garmin, he does these like deals once a

Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 32s):

Month. You mean the one where I’ve said for like six months we should do it live and then you’re like, whoa, blah blah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 35m 37s):

Yeah, I didn’t wanna do it, but now I do. Alright. I changed my mind. Okay, so, so like let’s do it. I’m asking you though, legit.

Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 43s):

Yeah.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 35m 44s):

Do you think that our listeners and I, I don’t really know the answer to this question. Do you think our listeners are more apt to watch a live stream on YouTube or Facebook?

Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 51s):

I think Facebook

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 35m 52s):

Or I Instagram Or Instagram? Yeah,

Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 53s):

Instagram. Instagram is is I think more I media than any of those. Okay. Because Instagram’s happening right now. YouTube is something that was edited and is nice, but

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 36m 2s):

You can live stream on YouTube. I

Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 3s):

Understand. Okay. But I think, but we don’t have a following on YouTube, so that’s

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 36m 6s):

Not Ah, that’s a good point.

Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 7s):

Help us out. That’s a good point. 42,000 on Instagram or something like that. Yeah. So I would do it on Instagram and if you guys like that idea, leave us a message. Call us on the five star hotline. 6 5 7 2 0 5 61 0 5. And tell us what you think. Five

11 (1h 36m 20s):

Five star. Five star

Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 22s):

Hotline.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 36m 23s):

I can’t stop the jingle Singers when they come in, they come in. Do you

Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 25s):

Guys want to a, be a part of a live stream if we did that, you know, once a month or, or every, I don’t know, month and a half or something like that. And would you guys be, be interested in having a Facebook group that’s dedicated to The, Truck, Show, Podcast that we could have some conversations in there.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 36m 42s):

How did you come up with a month and a half every 45 days. Six,

Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 45s):

Six weeks.

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 36m 46s):

Oh, I see. Okay.

Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 48s):

I just know how busy we are. Right. Sometimes a month doesn’t, but it

Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 36m 51s):
