A Race Against Blindness is on its 9th vehicle fundraiser and 2nd with renowned adventure vehicle builder Rossmönster to raise funds for medical research into a therapy for retinitis pigmentosa caused by Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) – a devastating cause of childhood blindness.

A Race Against Blindness is connected with leading researchers and clinicians in the US and UK who are doing groundbreaking research for Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) – a devastating cause of childhood blindness. Their fundraisers are helping fund this cutting-edge research and a clinical trial for a new gene therapy that could help children who are going blind due to this.

In October 2024, A Race Against Blindness announced a $1M grant to support this research, and then, in December 2024, they announced a second grant for $2M, bringing the total funds supporting this life-changing research to over $3M!

The founders of A Race Against Blindness, Steve and Kristina Johnston, were personally impacted by RP/BBS when they discovered their son, Luke, was going blind as a result of it. The Johnstons have made it their mission to race for a cure for not only their son but all the other children impacted by this devastating disease.

This Rossmönster Baja LX adventure truck is the latest in a line of incredible adventure vehicles the nonprofit has given away. Past fundraisers have included everything from multiple adventure vans to overland-built trucks to SXSs and overland trailers. You can view their past giveaways and winners on their website. While you’re there, you can learn more about the clinical trials they are working to support, upcoming events, explore stories of impact, and discover more ways to get involved.
