We saw this unique roof top tent at Overland Expo SoCal and had to learn more about it. It features a unique approach that puts roof top tent set up at your finger tips.
Wild Land has introduced the Wingman, a roof-mounted tent designed for pickup trucks. This product aims to provide a camping solution that integrates with the vehicle’s structure, offering both storage and sleeping arrangements.
Design and Structure
The Wingman features a dual-layer design with a remote-controlled lift system. The lower section serves as a storage area, while the upper section functions as a sleeping space.
The tent’s frame utilizes a cross-bracing mechanism intended to support up to 660 pounds. When closed, the unit maintains a compact profile, aligning with the vehicle’s dimensions to minimize impact on aerodynamics and clearance.
Interior Features
Inside, the tent accommodates two to three people. It includes a skylight measuring approximately 26.2 x 23.5 inches, allowing for natural light and ventilation.
The interior is equipped with LED lighting strips, Bluetooth speakers, and charging ports. The sleeping area comes with a mattress covered in peach velvet fabric, a sleeping bag, and an air pillow.
Additional Components
The Wingman package includes a side awning that can be converted into a shower tent, a mini table, a blanket, a portable lounge chair, a ladder, and a support balancer.
The tent’s fabric is made from 190 grams per square meter polycotton with a waterproof rating equivalent to approximately 78 inches of water pressure, and the mesh components are constructed from materials weighing 5.3 and 2.8 ounces per square yard, respectively.
Installation and Compatibility
Installation is designed to be non-invasive, requiring no drilling. The tent is compatible with various pickup models, including the Ford F150, Ranger, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tacoma and Tundra. A dedicated chassis is provided for specific vehicle models to ensure proper fitment.
Operational Aspects
The Wingman operates via remote control, allowing users to set up or collapse the tent with minimal effort. Safety features include an integrated safety lock, ladder, one-touch power-off function, and radar sensors to prevent accidents during operation.
Weight and Dimensions
The entire unit weighs approximately 551 pounds. When closed, its dimensions are about 71.3 x 63.4 x 25 inches. The first-floor interior measures 58.7 x 53.5 x 38.2 inches, while the second-floor sleeping area extends to 88.6 x 57.6 x 41.7 inches.
