For those of us who thrive in the outdoors, the convenience of modern technology can make all the difference. Makita, a brand synonymous with quality and innovation, has ventured into the outdoor realm with their Outdoor Adventure line.
Finished in an attractive shade of green, this special outdoor series of cordless products operates within Makita’s convenient and efficient LXT power system. The Outdoor Adventure line consists of a variety of tools overlanders, car campers, glampers and outdoor enthusiasts will find useful when living in the outdoors.
We took the Makita Outdoor Adventure 36V (18V X2) LXT Hot Water Kettle out on a few trips to see how it fared at camp and on the trail. When we first laid our eyes on the Makita Hot Water Kettle, its eye-pleasing design and thoughtful features immediately stood out.
The convenience of having access to boiling hot water anywhere, whether you’re deep in the wilderness or at a bustling campsite, cannot be overstated. Having near instant access to hot water turns any trip into a glamping experience.
Versatility in Use
The applications of the Makita Hot Water Kettle are vast and varied. We used it for making tea and hot chocolate – it may be blasphemous to say, but not everyone drinks coffee, and this kettle caters to all preferences. But we won’t judge you if you did use it to make a piping hot cup of Joe.
It’s also invaluable for cooking and heating food items like freeze-dried food and instant noodles, cleaning dishes, and even creating a warm water mixture for our travel bidet. Yes, we’re fancy like that.
During our tests, we found that the water boils in just about nine minutes when using two batteries. This efficiency is a boon for those early mornings when you need a quick cup of tea or coffee and for preparing meals that require hot water.
The kettle features dual layer construction, so it keeps water boiling hot for long periods of time. When the water needs a reboil, just place it back on its base and hit the boil button. You’ll have hot water just a few mintutes later.
The convenience of having access to hot water at our fingertips transformed our camping experience, eliminating the need to constantly boil water over a campfire or portable stove. The kettle’s design includes a convenient carry handle on the top, making it easy to transport too.
Incorporating the Makita Hot Water Kettle into our overlanding and camping setup was a decision we did not regret. The ability to have hot water on demand made life on the road and at the campsite significantly more comfortable.
We no longer had to rely solely on traditional methods of boiling water, which often required more time and effort. Instead, we enjoyed the luxury of hot water at our convenience, enhancing our overall outdoor experience.
Safety & Convenience
Safety is paramount when dealing with boiling water, especially in an outdoor setting. Makita has incorporated several features to ensure safe operation. The kettle automatically shuts off once the water is boiled, preventing any risk of overheating.
The kettle’s ability to boil water without flames, especially in wooded areas, allowed us to leave the kettle unattended while we did other things around the campsite while the water boiled.
Additionally, the boil-dry feature prevents the kettle from operating when empty, safeguarding against potential damage. A sensor also ensures that the kettle does not operate unless placed on a stable surface, adding an extra layer of safety.
Battery & Power Efficiency
One of the standout features of this kettle is its ability to operate on Makita’s 18V LXT batteries. For optimal performance, it uses two 18V LXT 5.0Ah batteries, although it can function with just one.
The rechargeable batteries not only provide cordless convenience but also ensure that the kettle can be situated anywhere around your campsite or vehicle. We found this particularly useful when positioning the kettle near our cooking area and then moving it closer to our tent for nighttime use.
The batteries’ quick recharge capability was a significant advantage during our trip, as we could cycle through charged batteries efficiently. This is particularly useful for longer excursions where access to power might be limited, and every minute counts. Our 5.0Ah batteries charged up from empty to full in about 45 minutes each.
We found that the battery longevity is very good. The kettle was able to boil mutiple pots of water on the same set of batteries and for most of our trips, we did’t need to recahrge them until we after we returned home.
The charger’s standard household 110v plug charger was perfect for use with our truck’s onboard Redarc power inverter and worked seamlessly with a portable power station as well.
Final Thoughts
The Makita Outdoor Adventure 36V (18V X2) LXT Hot Water Kettle brings the comforts of home to the great outdoors, making it a must-have for anyone that values near instant access to hot water on their camping and overlanding adventures. The kettle’s performance, safety features, and versatility make it an exceptional addition to any outdoor kit.
