What a birthday! Overland Expo West celebrated its 15th anniversary with sunshine, 29,500 friends, 415 vendors, attendees from 48 states, and 7 countries, in Flagstaff, AZ. The attendee campgrounds were full, the show was sold out of vendor displays and unlike 2023, no rain, hail or thunder!
Overland Expo West, held annually at Fort Tuthill Fairgrounds in Flagstaff, AZ, attracts the vehicle-based outdoor enthusiasts, car campers, gear junkies, for 3-days of camaraderie, food, laughter, learning, and friendship. For 2024, since Mercedes Lilienthal was covering Overland Expo West by searching for the cool, the useful and the new, we decided it would be good to provide sights and sounds by taking as many photos of the overlanding rigs, gear, people and pets.
OFF-SITE CAMPING
We arrived on Thursday to get our credentials, check-in and get a lay of the land. Afterwards, we decide camp off-site with a couple of friends about an hour away from the show and we were rewarded for our efforts the next morning.
GEAR
We got to the Expo early on Friday morning to set up, grab copies of OVR magazine and make our way to the main entrance. By the time we got there, a large crowd was already flowing through the entrance and getting lost in all the cool gear. From automatic air-down hub shown by MORRflate, to tire tread bearing USA from Firestone, we too lost our way and time checking out everything.
OVERLANDING RIGS
Over the next 3 days, while getting our steps in, we got to look at hundreds of rigs. We are always amazed to see how everyone personalized their rigs to meet individual needs. On display at the INEOS Grenadier booth was the ALCAN 5000 class winning vehicle driven by Mercedes and Andy Lilienthal.
PEOPLE, FOOD and PETS
You can’t have all this without camaraderie, sustenance, and companionship. To add to the excitement, friends and strangers gathered to share stories of their trips, food and recipes they discovered in the backcountry.
If you’ve ever thought about attending one of the four Overland Expos, come early to explore the amazing trails and campsites and make sure you leave room in your rig for the new gear you will definitely purchase. Overland EXPO is held 4 times annually in Flagstaff, AZ, Redmond, OR, Loveland, CO, and Arrington, VA., so make plans and start saving your hard earned cash.
If you make it to Redmond, OR, stop by OVR’s rest stop, read a magazine, grab some stickers and say hello. Maybe you will make it into our PNW recap photo dump!
